20 years ago today I was sitting in an English class, though my mind was not on the book they wanted us to read. Same as any other day that season, my head was perpetually swimming in a whirlpool of nostalgia and melancholy. My life at the time was steeped in part time jobs and college electives. I longed for an era not so long before- me and my friends in high school, sneaking around the theater and using our creative spark to make funny things. Theater, art, filmmaking, whatever form it was- it was a life of endless creativity. A total fantasy.
All I wanted to do was escape, to there or anywhere else. So in my notebook, I created another world, filling it with characters I hoped we could reunite to play someday. I did not know how it was going to get done, or who I could even tell about it. But I wasn’t going to let myself rest until this place existed in some form. Fortunately, I had friends with the same passion as me to get it done once and for all.

Though Mega64 did not truly kick off into what it would become until 2003, this paper- old, and barely legible anymore- is proof that our spark was not dead. 20 years later, it still isn’t.
Grateful each and every day, I thank you again for giving us a chance. I hope you will join us in celebrating the true 20th anniversary of Mega64 next year!
