Mega64 Movie Club: Ace Ventura Pet Detective
Added 2023-03-13 03:19:00 +0000 UTC"ALRIGHTY THEN!" - Guess the movie :) So yeah, we've all heard the quotes and impressions (at least we did on the playground decades ago), but how much do we care about Ace Ventura now? We all watched it again (some of us for the first time) to see if there's something still there in the ol' birdcage or doghouse or whatever.

2023-03-15 15:42:31 +0000 UTCYeah, this actually did have a lasting effect on how a lot of people look at that particular topic in a mocking or unaccepted fashion. It may seem easy to wave this off as a silly forgotten movie that no one really thinks much about anymore, but I've personally seen that whole subplot and how it played out referenced pretty frequently in recent years. Just earlier *today* I saw some dumb post where someone made a big deal about a goddamn Catwoman toy being sculpted with a "bulge" rather than just being completely smooth and wouldn't you know it, the very first and most "upvoted" response was a Finkel/Einhorn reference. Shirts with Jim Carrey plunging his face are still up for sale on some popular graphic-tee websites right now. Definitely not posi-vibes.

It's a silly not very goof movie, but right now with politicians introducing more anti-trans and drag bills than any other type of legislation, it's hard to even hear people describe these scenes. Keep up the good work!

2023-03-13 18:19:53 +0000 UTCI get a thrill anytime someone acknowledges the existence of Ace Ventura Jr. because the last time I got physically ill was some 14 years ago and when staying home watching daytime cable - Cartoon Network ran a marathon of it and I was too out of it to look for the remote. So I just laid on the couch for a day going in and out of sleep and watching Ace Ventura Jr some 3 times. It's ingrained in my mind.
