Patron Update #4 - Xenogears Plans & Other Things
Added 2022-09-07 17:24:16 +0000 UTCHowdy everyone,
Autumn is upon us - my favorite season, and incidentally a season that only lasts about 2 weeks in the Canadian Prairies before we're assaulted with -45 degree weather. In any case, I find September/October & horror games are meant for each other, so I've got a few things planned in that regard.
I've decided that I'm going to release a smaller video on the game 'Gloomwood', which just released in early access. As you may know, I love immersive sims like Thief, so this is right up my alley. I planned to just power through the Xenogears review, but by GOD is this game dense. Having taken extensive notes, labelled dozens upon dozens of hours of footage, and with some reading material still not finished, Xenogears is a beast of a review. As such, I want to treat the game with the respect it deserves, and not have the script be subject in any way to burnout or exhaustion. I think the best way to do that is to temporarily shift focus before regrouping and gettin' it done.
I know the viewer/creator relationship is kind of topsy turvy. Where you all have plenty of content creators to watch, and aren't necessarily anxiously awaiting each and every thing I do, I feel beholden to my viewers and especially my Patrons. I said Xenogears would be my next video, and I was mistaken. I underestimated just how deep, complex & lengthy the story component of this game would be. I hope the delay in the video's release isn't disappointing, and I promise that I'm going to do this game justice to the utmost of my ability. There's something incredibly fascinating and wonderful here, and unpacking it is taking some extra time.
In the meantime, I hope there are some fans of imsims in here who'll enjoy the Gloomwood video. Even if you aren't, I hope you get a kick out of the video. It'll give me a chance to breathe amidst un-spaghetti-ing Xenogears plot, and also a chance to REALLY work with my new video editing software for the first time, making the next video process more expedient.
Just wanted to clear that up so you all know what's going on. Communication is important, so let me know what you think or if there are any spooky themed games/videos you're interested in seeing for October.
Thanks again for the support!

I appreciate that. I'm glad it's something so many people seem to be looking forward to, and I'm making sure it's worth the wait. So far I've got about 15,000 words written in my script draft (which in my experience equates to about 90 minutes of video) and I'm MAYBE halfway done, but probably not even that. I never planned on it being so long, but with a game like this it's inevitable! It is, as you say, worth my time to get it right - and I intend to do just that.

There is so much to experience, to take in, and to process. It's more than worth the time to get it right, I would say. I've been ecstatic ever since you mentioned that's what your current major project is, and while I'm not going to watch the Gloomwood review for some time (as I'm personally interested in the game and always play games blind), it will still be there for me when I end up getting around to it.

The xeno games in general have so much to unpack so I think giving yourself time to get a hold on everything is the best decision. In regards to Gloomwood, hell ye brother how can you go wrong with a video on a New Blood Interactive game? Dave Oshry knows how to pick 'em that's for sure. David Szymanski is a legend and while I don't know much about Dillon Rogers clearly they do good work together. Haven't tried Gloomwood yet but really looking forward to your video on it!

And yeah, while there’s other content creators, doesn’t stop me from scrolling each morning before work to see if you’ve thrown something up on the tube haha. Looking forward to all the above!

2022-09-07 18:14:28 +0000 UTCWhile I admittedly know very little about Xenogears, I know it's a pretty chunky game, so it's no surprise it would take a long time to get through with all the notes and footage needed for a review. Take as long as you need on it, especially given it'll help avoid burn out on something you care about! Looking forward to Gloomwood!
