Tell me your thoughts on cancel culture
Added 2019-12-04 16:34:19 +0000 UTCI'm interviewing comedian Shane Gillis tomorrow who was fired from SNL for "racism" taken out of context. What are your thoughts on cancel culture? Can jokes go too far? Do people deserve redemption? Is this outrage mentality hurting or helping the woke cause?

Lets not pretend that that isnt the case.
2019-12-10 04:07:33 +0000 UTCWe are living in a “SNOWFLAKE” culture people are fucking crybabies and can’t take a joke sometimes *drops mic* (walks out like a Badass while everyone in the background claps)
2019-12-07 23:49:41 +0000 UTCcancel culture is annoying as hell. its basis is mostly people hopping on a bandwagon/trend just because they're bored. it's like some shitty outlet for people to let out their pent up anger that they'd never say to someone's face. i hate using pretentious english words but "ad hominem"... attacking the person rather than actually arguing facts is just stupid and doesn't allow for any intellectual conversation. plus, it's an all or nothing mentality- it doesn't let people grow or change for the better and traps them in their past mistakes. not good. maybe a quick scandal is okay now and then but complete cancellation is just dumb.
2019-12-05 21:30:02 +0000 UTCI feel like cancel culture has a lot to do with ego, they just wouldn't bother with someone so pitiful and below them they just cross them out and off to the next. That is my take on it, they don't take the time and or consideration to break down what's going on.
2019-12-05 13:34:05 +0000 UTCcancel culture is basically just consequences for your actions. do some foul shit, people dont like you anymore, thats how the world works. it gets to be a problem when people blow things out of proportion. digging up old dirt on someone is fine if that dirt is actually bad enough for them to be "cancelled" but if its something small and the person is obviously not a bad person then just leave them alone. jokes can go too far if you're not funny enough (ex. dave chapelle will probably never get cancelled over a joke because he can deliver it so well we have to laugh, aka being the king of stand-up). also, i feel like the vast majority of people who get "cancelled" are fine, i honestly cant remember someone who's scandal blew up on social media and it actually fucked up their lives, but i know of plenty who got "cancelled' and are still making bank and not giving a fuck about some angry tweets by some kids with too much time on their hands
2019-12-05 08:29:19 +0000 UTCCancel culture doesn’t give people a chance to change for the better. A lot of musicians, rappers specifically, get canceled because of stuff they’ve done in the past even when they are actually trying to change for the better.?Thinking of xxxtentacion, who it looks like was actually trying to do better than his past actions.
2019-12-05 06:24:02 +0000 UTCI feel like cancel culture if for the people that can’t explain themselves so they attack people they can easily and instantly put someone down for things that are often not offensive
2019-12-05 03:45:54 +0000 UTCThey a bunch of tryhards
2019-12-04 18:49:29 +0000 UTCPeople are treating it in an extremely black/white way and hang onto anything to discredit the opponent. It is mostly a first world problem because there is much less conflict in developed countries so people seek out something to fight against. There is even a rise of counter-counter-culture
2019-12-04 18:49:12 +0000 UTCI'm not sure cancel culture is actually something to be worried about. There's always going to be a paying audience for - established - comedians who are said to have done wrong. Prime example being louis ck. As long as there's always an underground or alternative scene, which I think there will be, young comedians making jokes on touchy subjects will be fine. This all goes to show that enough intelligent people don't take this whole 'woke' business seriously.
2019-12-04 16:59:17 +0000 UTCI guess my only experience with cancel culture is the iconic Logan Paul's Suicide news. I guess he's just carried away with things and just wanted to just produce intriguing and fun vlogs that'll attract a younger and teenage demographic but that one mistake didn't turn out well for him. From my perspective, he wasn't mature enough to understand the situation and eventually got canceled. From then on everyone despised the name Logan Paul. It was kinda interesting to see how he overcomed the situation with drastic changes to his channel and just created more informative content like the impaulsive podcast. So I guess cancel culture does make you more aware about what you do online. Idk man im chattin shit
2019-12-04 16:56:23 +0000 UTCI feel like they are just scared of twitter SJW's would try to cancel them if they would't. I am black myself and I don't care if comedians make jokes about black people and use offensive terms. It's commedy not opinions. If I don't like it I don't watch it.
2019-12-04 16:55:07 +0000 UTCWe don’t have a black and white outlook on opinions, it’s very gradient and almost like a rainbow. WE DONT KNOW WHAT THE HELL TO SAY. If we don’t say anything, we’re getting bashed for not saying anything and being ignorant. If we do say something we get bashed for butting our noses in and not minding our own business.
2019-12-04 16:53:10 +0000 UTCpeople are too soft
2019-12-04 16:52:32 +0000 UTCForgiveness is something that needs to be realized as one of the most important and rewarding gifts a human can give. Boundaries must be pushed in order to innovate and improve anything in life. Stepping over the line into unknown territory is how you learn about the unknown. I’ve made mistakes, was forgiven, and now I’m a much better person because of the experience. We’re all kinda terrible people learning how to be good. You can’t just ignore or cancel something that is a negative experience, you have to acknowledge it and try to understand it, use it to your benefit and learn. Every single one of us is full of negativity, so it’s up to us to forgive each other for it.
2019-12-04 16:46:43 +0000 UTCCancel culture is trampling all over free speech. There's no constitutional protection that can guarantee freedom of speech in the court of public opinion.
