Ep 219.1 - Millennials are Killing the Millennial Left w/ Chris Cutrone

I couldn't stand this guy. He'll start to make what sounds like an interesting point, then immediately steer into a dogshit take. He honestly reminds me a bit of Caleb Maupin.

Jameson McKee

i recently moved to amerikkka, whats a good history book on Jeffer$on or the american revolution?

Real Person

Am I stupid or does this guy seem to avoid making any points?

Henry Ermer

always thought the contradiction between exchange and use-value would drive proles to a determinate negation of capitalist relations, turns out they just need to believe in America!

daytorn

I'm too dumb to have an opinion about the ideology here. But I can say that I dislike how this guy says "right?"

Will

something about the way i hate some things cutrone says just makes me think he is kinda hot

Real Person

I agree in a sense but why Jefferson? Why not look to the radical republicans instead of a guy who literally owned human beings, we don't have to go back to old American mythologies, that factually don't resonate with anyone anymore, and not because millennials are woke, it's because Jefferson was a slave owner, it's not irrational not to want to celebrate someone like that, it's actually completely understandable that the hot-air of an aristocrat who factually owned people has no valence to me. Let's do epic Anglo-Bolivarianism, Lets do based John Brown-MLKism, that would be good, but my God, how did Browderism turn out, as fucking useless as every white college maoist Cutrone loses sleep about.

"Socialism from a Marxist perspective is not anti-capitalist" lmao

Ed M.

Wow I saw this as pure critique of the moment and not necessarily a berating of the millennial left. He also said the new left failed and by way of that Gen X as well. I kind of agree that millennial left has failed to sieze the moment but cutrone definitely left room for something good to come out of this milieu I see his main critiques as the millennial lefts misunderstanding the history of revolution and how Socialism developing anywhere especially in the US is inherently intertwined with the bourgeois revolution

Ryan Dutter

He said workers experience the same alienation and exploitation regardless if rural, suburbs, urban. Don't think he was saying that rejecting suburbs is infantile or bad.

Ryan Dutter

Isaac Suárez

If we can't reject the suburbs, which are economically unsustainable as the infrastructure costs more than the property tax they generate. Environmentally unsustainable, levelling greenspace surrounding the city into a landscape traversible only by car. And socially unsustainable, shifting social responsibility away from the community and onto alienated nuclear families. If we can't reject that, what's the fucking point? It's not enough to just say the city has bad vibes too.

Alex Hennessey

Ugghhhhh...

Philip P Deveney

Cutrone sometimes poses interesting questions or accurate critiques, but always becomes very squishy when it comes to his own proposals

Matt Crossin

God, what a labyrinthian mess of hedges and bad faith.
