Bonfireside Chat Appendix: Shinobi Prosthetics

We've touched on the various shinobi prosthetics found in Sekiro throughout this most recent season of the show, but we wanted to take an opportunity to roll back through them and take a look at their various uses and upgrades.

I remember a specific combination of the shuriken upgrade where you fly right behind it into an enemies face following it up with an axe smash and immediately beak posture and get a death blow. Great for groups with a boss to clear it out quickly to perfection with death blow invincibility.

The Loaded Axe was more a psychological tool than a practical one. In the final Genichiro fight, the axe can interrupt the second mortal blade strike. Didn’t do a ton of damage or save much time, but it felt good.

It's also frustrating that you can't see the end results, so even knowing what to go for is hidden information, for no good reason!

The upgrade tree is the thing that hurts these the most for me. Not only does every upgrade cost far too many resources, but you also have to spend those resources on useless upgrades to access the ones that are actually worthwhile. Specifically, every time I had to upgrade the spear in order to upgrade a tool I was actually using was frustrating. I also love the suggestion you guys make of each tool having its own ammo supply. That sounds much better than a pool of, at max, 20 spirit emblems for both tools and high level skills.

I tried to use the high end sword techniques in my 2nd run and it was just sort of pointless to spend that much on something easily interrupted and easily blocked that might do 5% of a bosses health if I was lucky. -GB

Considering how limited a resource spirit emblems are, the risk/reward on every tool that isn't firecrackers led me to all but ignore prosthetic tools my first playthrough. This is made even worse by tying the more effective sword techniques to spirit emblems also, making me choose between them and mostly making me decide on neither. It starts to make me think they can't be bothered to tune their mechanics better, and just restrict the hell out of them because the challenge hogs like it better that way anyhow.

In my playthrough, it's fairly rare that when I've run out of emblems, I have health to spare, so I haven't used it a lot. But I agree it's definitely a cool idea. -GB

On the topic of limited spirit emblems, I was wondering how useful you guys found the ceremonial tanto. Personally I love it, the vitality cost is a little steep, but it’s nothing a pellet can’t fix.

Pleased to hear alpha strike has migrated into BSC
