Real Lich Hours 19: Decrepit Village

Did somebody say LAND SHARKS?!

Real Lich Hours 19: Decrepit Village

One topic I might like seeing you guys cover in a tactics section is how BG3 makes way for and (IMO) sometimes encourages the use of “Cheese Strats” at multiple points in the game, and how they can be used to get past difficult encounters if you sometimes find yourself banging your head against a wall in a particular fight. For instance the Spectator fight you covered in this episode. One strat I made use of is that along the cliff ledge that leads from the Selunite outpost to the area where the petrified Drow are there is an explosive mushroom (can’t remember what they’re actually called), as well as several explosive barrels in the outpost itself. If you take 3-4 of those barrels, stack them right next to that mushroom and activate the fight from the Outpost the cutscene will trigger and spawn the spectator. However the encounter won’t immediately trigger. The Specator will slowly float his way to the outpost, passing the trap you assembled. If you cast fire bolt the instant the spectator is there he’ll take a massive amount of damage (4/5ths of his health) and make the fight that much easier. Yes it’s “cheap” and not intended. But it’s still fun that Larian made the game in such a way that if you’re hitting a brick wall and getting frustrated with a particular fight that it’s no problem if you think outside the box and melt a bit of mozzarella on a fight if you wish. This was one example, but I’d like to know what you think of cheese strats in general, and where in the game you may have made use of them so far? Thanks in advance for any response

Just FYI it cannot be pushed on Tactician. But on Balanced you can push the damn thing (using Eldritch Blast) into the hole in the middle then find its corpse by the Minotaurs in the Underdark. If you’re on PS5 you get a trophy if you push it on your first turn.

I must try this

Again this game surprises me every time. Thank you for sharing your experience with this game. I have learned more from listening to your podcast. My son brought me two games for Christmas. Well when bg3 announced they would release the game to Xbox I bought it. Only played the one game that he bought me. The other one I haven’t touched. To be fair though I played a demo version three years ago sooooo technically I played it. 🤣😳. But I love bg3. The way I find out new things and how every play through the chest I dig up are always different. (Except for specific ones.) I just find that interesting.

You mentioned that Filro the Forgotten was a cannibal who survived by eating gnomes. Ethical, moral and philosophical question - what counts as cannabalism in the Forgotten Realms? Are there certain sentient races that it's ok to eat and certain ones that aren't?

I had found the same thing!

Hi Guys You spoke about Myrna’s grave and had a laugh about how “Dig it up” or leave were the only options. Well in the Wizards Tower you can find a letter from Amrith to Lenore the tower’s owner I believe. The letter speaks about how Myrna loved to roll around in autumncrocus and how Amrith appreciated that Lenore had put the flower on Myrna’s grave. Having read the letter and if you have the flowers in your inventory you get the option to place the flowers on Myrna’s grave giving you some XP. Really sweet and yet again the game surprises with its enormous attention to detail. PS: The letter also reveals how Lenore had attempted to make the bulette her pet, which makes you wonder what became of the towers owner even more. And I wonder who Amrith is.

Using Glut to revive the giant Matriarch Spider, I had pushed into a hole to fight for me, and decimate most of the enemies in the Underdark was when i knew this game was something special.

Glut had a reanimated Hook Horror with him when he turned hostile, and it did attack me.

Even though I made it through the overland and took out the goblin camp it wasn't until the encounter with Gekh Coal and Co where the combat really clicked with me. I played along with him at first and went to Thulla to get the boots but once she suggested I wear them to kick his ass I had my goal in mind. I almost missed Glut but having him tag along was nice...until the end. I gleefully jumped into battle with Gekh and felt triumphant after a half hour battle and when I turned down Glut thinking "the mushroom colony will sort itself out" he immediately turned on me, started raising all of the enemies I just spent all that time fighting, laughed and said "ah hell, here we go again."

No no, thats Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes.
