Nightreign Coverage?
Added 2025-05-28 23:59:44 +0000 UTCHey folks, Gary here
On the eve of Nightreign Weekend, I wanted to let everyone know what our plans were at this point with regards to coverage.
We're both going to get it and poke at it as long as it seems fun and interesting
Then we're going to record a first impressions episode and talk about if we want to do more
And that's basically it for plans! We won't make a good show if we force ourselves through something we don't like, and being honest, it seems pretty Not For Us.
In terms of timeline, I originally planned to play this weekend and record that episode next week, but I'm going out of town, so it'll be a bit longer. In the meantime, Will wrote up a piece on it at The AV Club that I'd recommend.

We recorded our impressions and are still unsure if we'll do more. I hate being rushed so much. -GB

2025-06-12 19:48:07 +0000 UTCI was not at all excited about this but I'm actually having a lot of fun with it! Once you figure out the flow, it makes sense. I'll probably drop it after a few weeks though

2025-06-12 07:36:15 +0000 UTCOh wow. I’m a bit surprised. The whole thing’s multiplayer. I guess it’s not pvp. I’m not sure how I feel about it yet honestly

2025-05-31 15:52:36 +0000 UTCSo after a couple nights of noodling with it, I do think that they've managed to make something in this genre that's more From Soft than Fortnite. The fact that there's story, character progression, and unlockable stuff intertwined with all of that is pretty cool. Kind of interesting to read all of these incredibly visceral takes. Miyazaki said that this isn't their main focus, so what's everyone so worried about? It seems to me like a great testing ground for new mechanical ideas in a mainline game. The Executor class being a Sekiro/Bloodborne hybrid, for instance, is pure gold.

2025-05-31 14:39:48 +0000 UTCIt's genuinely bittersweet. Even if it was fun, part of me wouldn't even want to buy it to skew the data towards it being successful because I don't want From making something like this in the first place. That being said, I do wish success to From in their endeavors for releasing Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, the best game of all time. That, AND that being said, I'm just sicko on the Internet in a patreon comments section so what the hell am I going to do about it all anyway.

2025-05-30 19:45:53 +0000 UTCA little late to the party but, I find this approach completely reasonable. Nightreign seems like “something strange” wearing Elden Ring skin…

2025-05-30 04:39:33 +0000 UTCyeah if it helps getting the temperature, i love Souls multiplayer but i'm not so jazzed about a whole game for it that i'll get it right away even at its relatively cheap starting price. at best it sounds like a game you play on and off when you want to scratch its specific itch real quick

2025-05-30 03:24:06 +0000 UTCMy issue is that I just don’t have multiplayer games in my “gaming plans”, mostly because every console now wants money to play online. I also just enjoy single player experiences more.

2025-05-29 18:04:19 +0000 UTCYeah, the seemingly mandatory multiplayer and the fast paced nature combined mean it isn't for me. I love Sekiro because it basically becomes a rhythm game, but its fast paced and I just do not enjoy the thought of multiplayer while trying to rush.

2025-05-29 15:19:19 +0000 UTCAll of these "not for me" folks are missing out. I have never played any online co-op games. Literally none. But I got to play the Network Test and it was a blast. I am beyond excited for this game. Its so refreshing to see a studio release a multiplayer game with 0 micro transactions. This game is meant to be fun. And it succeeds at that.
