I've been working on the above piece for a while now in between client stuff (Really been feeling the absence of time/energy lately for personal work) and i'm super excited to have fully realized the original vision.
It's a combination of several factors: My fascination with biomech visual language, my love of the proportions/silhouettes favoured by classic Gundam/FSS suit/tech designers like Kazuhiso Kondo, Makoto Kobayashi and Mamoru Nagano and the ongoing influence of colourschemes like those on classic sofubi collectible toys. The wash of wild neon hues and clashing palettes in endless rotation on the same figures lead to me thinking about the toys I collected as a child and the thrill I got out of discovering new palettes and paintwork for stuff like Beast Wars figures. NFT fever has been extremely draining in the art industry as of late but it did resurrect my interest in "scarcity" of a digital piece, or the conceit of rare "variants", as well as my ongoing interest in using illustration as material for "remix" work in the same way musicians will revisit a track. To that end, I produced several variants i'll be collecting in the next post, two of which are unique to the Patreon for now!
