2023-09-05 03:14:34 +0000 UTCThe cluster of Shudo-written episodes in mid-Johto is fascinating to me; while often narratively convoluted or problematic, their tonal and thematic ambitions decidedly exceeds the slew of dull COTD-driven episodes otherwise swamping this era of the show. They're effectively closer to (albeit deeply flawed) "mini-movies" in the Kanto vein, which I vastly prefer to the more technically-solid but tonally-conservative faire the show evolves into by the Advanced Generation saga.

An artist struggling with their newfound limitations conceptualizes "art is a storm" as "art is fleeting" discovers that its ephemerity just means it's not something that can die bc it will always find a way to manifest FEELS like what this episode wanted to convey, but sadly, unless there was some dub meddling, the pieces are too disjointed to say all I think it had in the spirit.

2023-08-31 12:26:18 +0000 UTCGlad that we've reached this episode, but there's one minor error. You couldn't get a yellow tailed Smeargle in Pokémon Stadium 2. The default was red, but certain IVs could make it green or blue, but never yellow.
