The sheer greatness of Isayama's writing can be witnessed in this episode and through Kenny's character. He could have been easily written off like the Ackerman's were persecuted and hence Kenny became Kenny the Ripper. But Kenny has motivations far superior. All his life until he met Uri, he had known power and the influence of it on people. That power had made him egoistic and arrogant in some way. But here is Uri, who is even more powerful but he is compassionate and peace loving. How can he be so compassionate after being the most powerful in this world ? Kenny couldn't wrap his mind around this psychology. He wanted to see for himself. What was this strange power which is not bound just by physical capabilities but stretches outwards? That's what drove him. In the end, he realized Uri turned out to be just a slave to his ancestors. He didn't choose to be compassionate , his power did. Kenny was free-spirited, he had carved his own path. No way will he be a slave when it is his choice. He gives up the titan serum and dies a free man

honestly Mikasa saying it is a good way to adapt for the fact that they completely fucked Dimo's character in the anime lol. it's a good second choice. the only issue is... Levi didn't really do anything wrong in the anime, so the only reason for Mikasa to tell Historia to punch him is because she hasn't got over her grudge against Levi. it's a bit immature but I get it, if they did it this way I wish they gave at least one more scene to Historia and Mikasa to flesh out their friendship so the punch makes sense I'm just glad season 3 part 1 is over with, very much my least favourite part because of how skipped over everything in the source material is. we'll be getting back on track now

personally I think they should watch it in between parts because the last episode canonically takes place after episode 12, and it would be a good break to watch a few episodes to separate the parts. also there's the fact that i would prefer they watch it so a certain character gets focus before part 2

To be honest the Reiner scene is misplaced and severely undercuts the moment of Levi smiling. the anime only added it there because they wanted it to be a cliffhanger and couldn't put it at the end of next episode. in the manga the chapter ends with Levi smiling, as it should

I wanted to give a little context concerning Historia hitting Levi and what that was about (because the anime makes it seem a bit random with very little build up to a reason or significance for it). The AoT anime actually rearranged a bunch of stuff in the manga for season 3 part 1, and then took out things and added new things. One part they removed is Levi dramatically lifting Historia into the air by the shirt while she pleads for him to let her go before he eventually does let go. He did this in response to Historia wavering on the idea of becoming queen when he proposed that is her mission. He later puts his hand on her head and screams "THERE IS NO TIME, SO DECIDE NOW!" This happened in chapter 56. Later, Dimo Reeves, who was there and watched this happen, says to her "once you become queen, give him a good whack and dare him to hit you back", which Eren agreed and encouraged her to do. In the anime, Mikasa says this instead, but it kind of comes out of the blue and isn't as meaningful (or is more ambiguous) than in the manga.

I think Kenny just wanted to know if he could have the same power as Uri would he be able to resist using it like Uri did? He wanted to know what it was like to feel compassion and mercy even though you could kill every human alive. The idea that Uri just let him live despite having every reason to kill him confused and intrigued him. He couldn't relate to that and figured he would take the power and see how it would effect him.

Not long break, but they watch in bunch, and prev couple of episodes are crucial to the critical end episodes. So even if they watch in bunch after a week, they might lose plot points from Kenny and Uri discussions, and from the episodes before. These second part episodes are more knitted together similar to S4 first half. Lots of hidden clues and cues.
