Jinora is actually 11.

Gohan Black

Aang got his tattoos when he was 12 so Jinora wanting her tattoo is reasonable because both are very good at airbending and know so much about their culture

Elder

I believe in the old air nomad culture child rearing was something done by the community as a whole rather than by individual family units. Seems to fit their monasticl, communal-minded society well, and would perhaps explain why Aang didn't quite know his parents & saw his community as his family. "Every child is everyone's child" seems to be the idea imo. Communal child-rearing isn't unheard of in our world, Israeli collectives (ie. Kibbutz) and some indigenous peoples have a history of such practices.

cmoooon we need the rest of the episodes faster! the remaining episodes are breathtaking and the best overall

GH

“Conflict resolution. That’s what I do” Aang also said that in The Great Divide in Season One

Yeah I think it was definitely a "teen moment" of wanting to show her father that she's not a little kid anymore but you're right Tenzin is a full on Airbending master.

Alex

yo good to see u in the comments friend how u been

GodKingSosa

Yeah Jinora is more spiritually gifted than Tenzin but she isn't the level of airbender that he is.

Drew

IDK about Jinora being just as skilled as Tenzin. He's a really good airbender. Aang was a master by around her age, but he was also the youngest master ever, and he was, you know, the avatar.

Jacob

This is the end of the kid shit this season buckle up bitches shits getting real now

In addition to what others have said, it wasn't that airbenders were "taken". When they were still a full nation before the100 year war the Air Nomads were the only nation where every member was a bender. There were no non-benders in the air nation. So airbenders weren't...snatched, as it were, from those who gave birth to them

ZedW

Peak Korra* storytelling. But its so good that it's on par with the best of avatar.

This is one of those fun episodes. I really enjoyed seeing Tenzin training the new air benders. Oh and ofcourse Bumi, always the funny one of the 3 siblings.

Aaron

OK here we go ladies strap in keep your hands and feet inside the ride after this episode its all cranked to 100 peck avatar story telling is upon us lets goooooo!!!!!!!!!!

GodKingSosa

Well, that's how I see it. Edit: I used a lot of "children", huh? Lol, gotta learn sinonims.

Stiven Goldrin

It's not like they took children away (Airbenders). Aang told us that temples were full of monks, there weren't just old men, those that we saw in the Aang's show were elders. So, parents would give birth to children but would not raise them alone and create the concept of "parent" in children's mind. All who lived in a temple would participate in raising children, thus creating one big family.

Stiven Goldrin

The airbender children are raised sort of communally by monks as Milena said and remember that everyone in the Air Nomad culture are benders. Its not like the other nations where there are some non-benders, every single person is born a bender so "giving them up" for training is just a part of their culture. I bet they got to see and meet their biological parents once they grew up but for example Aang definitely saw Monk Gyatso as his father since he was the one who effectively raised him.
