Unlike with other antagonists in this show, there is NOTHING even remotely respectable or sympathetic about Envy. No sympathy from me. I get and agree with the message, revenge is bad and unconstructive, torture is not justice, but Envy had the gall to mock Hughes and his love for his family in front of his best friend. I don't think Mustang would've been that extreme if it wasn't for that despicable behavior.

I think the episode of Attack on Titan when the MP's corner Flegel near that building and they reveal everything, only to find out it was all a setup by the scouts, is really reminiscent of this episode. It goes to show that those who control the information control the battlefield. In AoT, the people started trusting the scouts after that incident. In this show, even though Mustang technically started the fighting, he's going to come out positively because of public perception due to the radio broadcast. A few episodes back, Father asked "why would he kidnap a useless hostage?" But obviously, he was shortsighted, because she turned out to not be useless at all.

2022-09-28 00:11:35 +0000 UTCThere's such a contrast to how Roy deals with Lust vs Envy. With Lust, he dispatched her in seconds. It was still brutal by the very nature of it being flame alchemy, but it wasn't him taking as long as possible to cause her agony. With Envy he is so deliberate, prolonging it, despite the fact that they're on a very important time crunch that has the fate of the country at stake.
