Hiya, Belgian person living in the UK here. My oldest is 20 and is going to uni next year but he is the exception. You can be as young as 17 or 18. I had to retake a year in high school due to illness so I was 19 when I went. All three books combined span 1 year September to September. Lydia and James have their 18th birthday in the second book (spoiler) but I don't know if that will be explored in the second season or not.

If they are close to graduating and getting into Oxford, they have to be around 20-21. I still don't love the teacher thing...but it makes it *slightly* less predatory....kind of? Also, James Beaufort is a young Matt Smith...tell me I'm wrong.

2024-06-20 06:02:38 +0000 UTCI feel recently that with book adaptations you almost have to read the book to get the full picture. There is much more background information on the characters and things make more sense in the book. It seems they are leaving things out of season 1 to address in season two. (Which they have started filming) The second book is far less riveting and it would make sense, from a cinematographic and drama point of view, that certain plotlines from book 1 will be further explored in season two.
