I so relate to that Maya-Ume relationship in the sense of once being close to my peers of family friends and then seeing them after a few years and we're like strangers and awkward but also familiar LOL. I also love how they allude to all the little details like how being mixed race meant you're not good enough for either side (Maya not being American enough because of how she looks but also not Japanese enough because she can't speak the language fluently), while also not being exotic enough because she's not from Japan; Anna getting triggered by people arguing because of her parents always fighting; how Shuji might feel a part of himself missing;
