Hi everyone! This piece is focused on it's simplicity more than anything. I like the rather otherworldly look of the tower and the color of the grass - it creates a bit of a sense of wonder without being unrelatable.
Positioning the tower at the right place is harder than it looks, there has to be a pleasing distance to the canvas edge on bith sides. In ancient Greece, philosophers wondered what this ideal relation is that people find pleasing. Legend says that the gave people a stick and told them to hold their finger where it feels visually pleasing to divide the stick in two parts. Almost nobody chose the middle, but a bit apart from it. This ratio got known as the "Golden mean ratio", which a lot of artists and designers of all kinds still use to this day (1:1.618)
Long story short, those thoughts go into my piece when deciding on where to put things compositionally. There is of course no hard rule to this, but the guidelines help. The tower would feel completely different if I would be standing in the middle of the canvas.
Anyways, I'm starting to ramble - hopefully you enjoy this rather simple piece.
Best,
Simon
