New Artwork "Island Village"

Hi everyone! This village has grown over the last few years, it used to be a simple fishing village, until one of the fishers daughters came back from a nearby city where she studied Gemmology. She had an incredible talent for cutting gems for all kinds of purposes, and as her skills grew by a lot while merely studying, the gemmaster of the city gave her the opportunity to open up her own little gem cutting manufacture on this island. While at first business was really slow, news of her amazing skills soon reached other shores, as she could cut gems in such a way that really showed their best reflections and qualities. She also proved to have a somewhat natural understanding for business, which is why her manufacture soon grew and had multiple apprentices.

What started with only herself, has now become a triumvirate of families, and the island has become known for cutting the best gems possible.

This piece has been particularly fun, I will definitely draw more villages in the future! The steamboat also fits quite well I think, my fear that it feels unnatural didn't come true at all. I was particularly careful with color variations in this one, especially on the trees.

Also, you will find our little wizard in there as well ;)

Have a nice week!

Simon

Thank you! That is exactly right, I really love red boats on blue sea, it's such a nice contrast, but I don't want the viewer to be distracted from what is important. I don't have a clear lore about transportation yet, technology levels are pretty much my biggest question mark for Argenta. I know that the world is really connected, so every island has about the same level of technology. Most technology is rather old though, or done with the help of stones that possess those traits. For example, there are VERY few airships - these usually float rather than fly with the help of cloudstones. There is no precise way to go about all the lore though, and it would also create lots of restraints on what I can draw so it still makes sense :)

Amazing! I wonder how the ship looks with a color that pops, like red, but I assume you purposely went for a color that keeps the focus on the town? Also, I remember seeing a drawing of a ship sailing through grass. Do you have lore for the transport in your world? And do you make it up as you go? I love reading the little background stories as much as I like the drawings.

Thank you! That means a lot, I appreciate it! Uuh, I'd love to live by the sea!

Hello little Wizard! I love the stairs leading uphill into the city, and the small sandy beach at the base. I can feel the wind in the open spaces of your art. Even without color it is lovely! Coming from a small coastal town myself, this piece is really comforting
