Sneak Peek - Jewelpet Movie

Today's work is a little different than usual. This was a request made by some friends some time ago, but it was something I wanted to work in for a very long time.

After I came back from the US,  I decided to work on this before any Hamtaro episode. I know I shouldn't because I am not fulfilling my promise of 2 episodes monthly and I am way behind, but I thought I wanted to work on something that I felt would help me improve a little with subbing and be less monotonous.

This movie is a true challenge, as I am not used to their voices, and the dialogues are way more complicated than the Hamtaro series ones. The subtitles are going slowly (as you can see from the sneak peek, I have 440 lines and I am not even near the half mark... and that is not counting that I skipped a short movie of MyMelody at the start of the movie (which I will work on before releasing this, don't worry). For measurement, a Hamtaro episode usually has 330 lines or so. The second Hamtaro movie has some 730 lines.

I plan to go all out with this movie, making the most accurate translation, the most precise timing and adding plenty of effects here and there. I would prefer not to revisit this movie until many many years in the future when I improve my japanese or I get someone to pinpoint the mistakes. So it will take a while to be completed.

I am a huge fan of Jewelpet and there is a good chance you will be seeing more work on this series later on, but after this I will go back to Hamtaro for a while. 

Now, onto this movie... It's adorable and frankly quite funny. I understand they promoted the whole Sweetpets thing so they could sell more toys and to avoid making a movie based in one Jewelpet universe ignoring the others by using the Sweetpets setting, but I think if the movie were based on say Kira Deco (which was the season airing when it was released) and they just focused on developing Jewelpets or simply made a "let's go on an adventure" script, it would have not been a bad choice either.

As I said it is truly a challenge to sub this but I am enjoying the result, which is rare on me. I am having a lot of fun too!

Once I finish the movie, I plan to release a quick "this is the movie folks" version without karaoke, effects or anything fancy, just the subtitles, for Patreon; and then later on while I work on Hamtaro subs I will slowly work my way into making a proper "final version" to deliver to the general public.
