There are a good few stories in the historical record of people whose death might have been due to their use of ceruse or other poisonous cosmetics. One notable case was the death of the Countess of Coventry, who passed away in 1760 at just 28 years old. Sure enough, she'd been a regular user of ceruse.
Whether that was the precise cause of her death is uncertain... but the public certainly seemed to think the two were connected. Her passing was often referred to as "Death by Vanity"!
