Hello, it's me Enji.

As some of you may know, there's no Age Matters update again this week.

Aside from the apologies, I'm writing this to share some of what I feel regarding some negative comments about this, my dear patrons. I feel like it's better to share this to you guys than to the public since aside from the people who are supporting me, you guys are supporting me also to help me make the comic more... not saying the other readers who don't support me on Patreon are inferior but I think you get what I'm saying plus I really wanna avoid the anonymous accounts attacking me.. but I'll try to post an abridged one for them too.

So... some are attacking me for being unprofessional lately. I know, I admit. I had to take some breaks around August 2019, September 2019 and now again this first week of November. I began to feel sick around August, recovered and my illness came back around the last week of September. My friend who also helps me make Age Matters told me that it's been 4 years since I've been making comics every week... Time flies... and maybe that has taken some toll on me physically, plus I'm not getting younger *Age Matters badum-tss* which may be true or maybe not. Who knows. I rarely get sick (which I am thankful) but when I do, it sucks big time and that's what happened.

If I think about it, the last year, 2018, I never had a break (aside from a week-off Christmas break) doing the comic Age Matters. It's kinda unfair seeing these comments calling me names and such. It really makes me sad how people are quick to judge.

Regarding this week's no update, I'm sorry about that but don't worry I'm fine. It's me who messed up and didn't make it on time. Since I got sick, I won't lie when I say the comic's length is somewhat shortened. I'm really sorry.  Whats kept me from making the comic this week was my unsatisfaction with the comic length. I don't say it much but I keep pride in making my comic(s) lengthy and the latest updates make me feel sad or anxious. I needed more time to make it back to the usual length.

Starting October 2019, I tried hiring more helpers but the comic production just got messier and sometimes these helpers just go AWOL. (Yes, looking at you, you-know-who) so I kept a few of my trusted helpers as possible.

Plus, I also really don't like the idea of taking a long hiatus. I just want to make the comic if possible when I can. Not to be bragging but even when I was still doing my other comic- The Third Party- (from another comic service, Lezhin), I never or rarely got myself a break that I'm surprised about the idea of a"season" (e.g. Season 1, Season 2) in a webcomic. LOL.

I don't really share a lot of what's happening in my personal life, I just post some memes and artworks. This is long but thank you for reading, I just needed to get this off my head. And no, I'm not depressed.. just sad or emotional but I'll get over it. I salute my other fellow webtoon authors who get through this.

Man, this post/letter might not make sense, don't even have a proper structure XD but yeah, I'm doing my best to make the episodes now.

PS: They say I took a break because of Pokemon, that was a joke geez. I even said it's going to be released "next week". If I took a break because of it, then I should've been on hiatus next week. lol Still, I won't deny I'm a big Pokemon gamer/fan but of course, I know how to manage game time and work time.

Wish you have a good day,

Enji

People who have online hissy fits because a creator misses a deadline are behaving like 5-year-olds. For the sake of your own sanity, all you can do is ignore them, just as you would ignore a random toddler screaming in the middle of a store. You produce a lengthy, high-quality webtoon that can be read for free: you don't owe your readers anything. Fatigue, burn-out and physical damage to hands are the most common medical issues of webartists, and can permanently affect you without adequate rest. Take all the time you need to recover and we will be here whenever you are ready to resume.

Grace Meisel

There's no end to the entitlement of those who think you owe them a new episode every week - on a FREE comic platform... Your health is more important and those people are just pissy, greedy idiots, imo. I know it sounds harsh, but really, you owe them nothing. They do not get to judge you for not catering to them, even if it's something you enjoy doing and feel bad about not delivering.

Mihae_79 MH MirH

Yeah, take care of yourself first. While we all love updates the story is from you. Us readers got to take care of the author. As far as I see it as someone investing into an amazing story, as long as the delay is within reason and there is a valid reason nobody should question it...

Robert Hollar

It really bothers me how horrible other readers have been towards you. Everyone has sick days or hard times and the idea that you- a person likely none of these people have ever met owes them something despite being human is offensive to me. I am perfectly happy to wait for you to be in the right space to create, and if you can think of anything, I am also equally happy to help you- even if it's as small as listening to you vent.

I’m sooo sorry you felt the need to have to say this, and read the awful comments. No one should have to go through that. Please don’t beat yourself up about the immature rantings of unhappy and ungrateful people who don’t understand what goes into making a comic possible. You should absolutely take breaks when you need them. You created this comic because you wanted to, don’t let that turn into have to. Remember, for every hater, there are 30+ more lovers who understand that you’re human, will be happy to wait patiently for you to be happy and healthy, and be excited and proud of the content you’re creating. Please take care of yourself and make yourself your number one priority, because without you, there wouldn’t be Age Matters. Hope you feel better soon. ❤️😘

Nicolette

Never apologize for taking care of you!!

This letter makes me sad and even a bit angry... Not at you those, but at these people who think they have the right to attack you for not posting a comic, especially on a FREE app. I am not an artist, but I do understand how tiring it can be to have to produce a comic every single week for years. I love your work and am always excited to see a new episode, but I also, first and foremost, value you as a person and a creator. And I would take you feeling healthy and emotionally well over a new episode any day. So, haters gonna hate... But you need to think about yourself and your work and take as much time as you deem necessary so that you can stay happy and in love with the project and yourself.

First off, I really love the comic but realize that life happens. Some folks are negative and unappreciative and forget we're all just people at the end of the day. I appreciate you making this comic which is a highlight every week in my hectic life. Thanks for what you are doing and don't take to heart the awful comments of unfeeling people.

I'm so sorry that people can be so mean and selfish. I totally understand that we sometimes need a small break. Even if you dont have depression or anything like that it is still good for your mental health to take time for yourself! You are so talented and I love reading your comic!!! I look forward to it every week OR every time there is an update. I think people tend to forget that when it's a smaller "Business" for a lack of better words. Sometimes things happen and we cant make a deadline exactly when we wanted. I applaud you for working so far AND not wanting to publish something that was half way done. You pride yourself in your work and that's awesome!!! Dont let others get you down! (I know it's easier said then done) you do you! We all need to learn and practice patience. We want things right away and sometimes that's not possible. But you are doing an amazing job!!! Keep it up 💕

We love you, don’t worry too much! You’re so wonderful and talented, and you should take as much time as you need to produce the work you want.

Cosmo Novak

I'm sorry, that's really rough :'( It's difficult to have people that judge and make assumptions about you. There's not a good way to block it out so maybe try using that as fuel to treat yourself better. In any case, your art is really inspirational and you gotta take care of yourself first.

Please don’t listen to those haters! You’re putting out amazing things, short or long. You can do whatever you need for however long it takes. You need to put yourself first. We will wait as long as you need. Much love!

Jess MCR

I think it’s best to put out things that you are completely satisfied with! Don’t worry about the people being rude, you are giving them free content to enjoy and they should not be greedy about it. Art takes time and it’s a lot of work, I think it’s good that you’ve taken breaks when you’ve gotten sick. Hopefully sometime you can take a break just for relaxation and not have to worry about everyone ❤️ looking forward to the next comic

Lauren Sullivan

I hate rude people , but maybe do take a hiatus and build of the stock pile so it's less stressful, either way... your art is AMAZING! It is beautiful, it is anime but in comic <3

Haters gonna hate, and there will always be people online that are only searching ways to attack people and so on. So just ignore them. You are most important, and especially your health. Without taking care of yourself, we won’t have Age matters for the long run. Please take as much time as you need, and perhaps a proper holiday per year, like the season idea, would help you prevent getting sick, and help you take better care of yourself, because YOU matter most! Ps. What’s happening with Pokemon go? Just started playing it again, lol

Andreea Hash

It sucks that people are being rude and insensitive but your comic is awesome I really love it and I hope you get well soon take all the time you need

Take care of yourself, take the time you need. "Age matters" is amazing, really high quality, always a pleasure to read even when the cliffhanges are "torturing" me but it's a good sign I think (finishing a box of chocolates "tortures" me but not a plate of brocoli 😜). Don't listen to haters, they don't see all the heart and work it is to make it so fabulous ! We all love and support you... and I am sure we would happily kick some asses 😈 Hugs & kisses from France 😘😘😘

Audrey LEREBOURS

You are loved and incredibly talented and deserve a break without justification to anyone. Take care of yourself first and we will still be here and excited when you feel ready to be back! ❤

Trychtopus

I love “Age Matters” but the person behind it is more important, so please take care, and if you need more time, take it. In a way, you don’t owe anyone anything. It’s easy to say lot of things behind a keyboard and while I can say, don’t take it to heart, it can be tough to. But keep your chin up and know there are others that are in your corner, rallying you along.

I agree with what the others said. Same sentiments. Yes, taking care of your self - of your health - is not selfish. Do what you must. We will just be here patiently waiting. I hope you were able to vent out all the negative vibes.. breathe in breathe our.. and now start to feel positive vibes from us 🥰❤️ i hope you feel better both emotionally and physically. We love you, Enj! Stay strong and healthy! We gotchu! ❤️

Ayu Heart

Self care is not selfish!! Only fake flowers last all year round!

We love you. True fans will stick by your side and support you. Especially when you’re not feeling well.

sarastrigoi

Enj, take a break if you need it. EVERY comic on webtoon has taken some form of hiatus. Also, for all the negative comments you get, just remember people are SO obsessed with your story that you should take it as a victory that people are complaining. We will be here after you take a break should you take one 💁🏻‍♀️❤️

DestroyerOfLight

Do what you need for self care, yes we love the story, but if you wear yourself too thin we won't get one. Let the negative nellies grumble, but do you when you need too, burnout is no joke.

SeaUrchoon

I agree that it makes me upset that you think you have to provide some sort of explanation as to why you're taking a break. You are human, you are creating something out of nothing but your own efforts. That is tiring work and while it brings me joy to read the comic I will enjoy it less if I know that the creator is struggling to force themselves to make it. Take care of yourself, as hard as it is focus on those here who are sharing the good things with you and try not to spend much time reading the negative comments. I am a teacher and I often get told that teachers need to fix their own oxygen masks before their students. This means that if you aren't safe and capable of doing the work then you aren't in a place to help others either. So fix your mask first before trying to worry about others. Rest, play Pokemon if that brings you joy, and know your fans will keep supporting you.

Katlyn Joswsy

I really hate that you had to write this letter. People feel so entitled to things that they are absolutely not entitled to. You’re only human(well...only a potato) and you can’t be 100% all of the time. I’m really happy to have found this comic at all and I love being on the journey with you as you continue to make these amazing characters come to life. It’s not always easy to block out the negativity, but I know the majority of your readers don’t have those feelings.

KJ

I really hate when people attack artists for not doing what they want done. They don’t stop and think how much time and effort goes into drawing and planning out the story. I am thankful that you share your wonderful WEBTOON with us each week, if you need rest, then you need rest! Just remember the fans that mean something won’t mind. Take care of your self! Also if you are playing Pokémon sword and shield, I would totally love to add you on my Nintendo switch friend list :D 💜

SubZillah

I’m sorry you have to deal with such shitty people and their comments. I truly hope you don’t let it get to you too much (I’m sure it’s difficult with people hiding behind their anon comments) but like others have said, your true (and normal human being that know humans need rest and relaxation ) fans will be with you every step of the way. When it comes to art, I think you should take as long as you need to make the content you’re happy with. This isn’t a machine mass producing a story for us. This is you, a wonderful person who is sharing your beautiful art, feelings and emotions and trying to reach us through your story. Sorry if that seems over dramatic but please please remember that you are a wonderful person who deserves to be cared for! Take care of yourself Enji!

Big Hat G

You got this. Don’t let other people bring you down. Don’t worry true fans will support you no matter what

I’m sorry that you’re going through so much judgement online. I hope your health gets better first and foremost. No matter how many breaks you need to take, we will always love Age Matters.
