Movie Burn Out

Do you guys ever get jaded when it comes to watching movies? I know the answer might be slightly different for someone who reviews them, but I always wonder how other people feel about this subject.

For me, I tend to get more jaded into NOT watching movies. I will sometimes find myself thinking, almost always due to past experience with what I think are similar movies, that I already know what a movie will be before I see it. But rather than making me enjoy the movie less, it saps me of enthusiasm for seeing it at all. The irony, of course, is that when I eventually do see it, I'm often wrong about what I thought it was going to be that made me not want to see it. ;)

Maybe not movies per say but I get tired of seeing particular production companies (Blumhouse for example) that push out shit on the Hollywood conveyor-belt and try to pawn it off as entertainment. Really makes me loose hope, I want to see passion and artistry, not cliches.

That happens to me sometimes if I watch a string of disappointing films. Then you watch a movie that completely blows you away and reminds you why you love films.

Not so much the act of watching them, but going to the movies. Until recently (obviously lol) i was going to the movies 30/40 something times a year. So i really enjoy seeing special events in the theater. Old films, concert films, documentaries, rifftrax , tv episodes, etc. And i was going to anything that was just close to my wheelhouse. Im looking through the upcoming events. Oh a gorillaz concert documentary? Im going. A Depeche mode documentary? Well thier ok. Ill go. Its almost becomes a chore to go because i dont wanna miss anything. When i see clockwork orange is playing, thats a absolute must etc. Its that kinda thing.

This tends to happen to me while watching TV shows rather than movies. When a show has multiple episodes, the prospect of completing it can seem like a chore while a 2 hour long movie does not.

Yes. I've had my mind set on doing other things lately but I can't because the lockdown has shut down the places I want to go to. Movies and video games aren't enough to satisfy me right now.

Yes, sometimes.

It matters, there are times in life when I feel down and want to get my mind off things so I try to force myself to watch a movie to clear my mind, but instead I just seem to not be able to focus on the film and end up not enjoying the film. Film has always been some kind of therapy for me but at times my thoughts can overpower my potential to enjoy a film which results in pure frustration.

I get this feeling when watching certain experimental films, it's not like a complete burnout but more a desire to follow up with films that garnered that high level of engagement after displaying really unique elements. Like for example most recently was transitioning from La Haine to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, both are really good films in their own respect but idk with the later l was like shi I'm really not interested in what's going on. I think it varies from person to person but it's defo normal

I can relate to this. XD

I’m not sure about jaded, but when I watch a new movie I think of all the things that were borrowed from older movies and am usually unimpressed.
