Alice: Asylum - Design Bible Sneak Peak

Dear Insane Children,

Wanted to say THANK YOU for all the support and kindness in your reactions to the "OZ: Adventures" announcement we shared yesterday. It's great to be partnered with such a respected and successful film production company as Radar Pictures... but even greater to have such a creative and engaged group of Insane Children here on Patreon.

I kinda think we might make history with this if Oz finds a home somewhere like Apple, Netflix, or HBO... the first-ever Crowd Design -> TV Series production in the world?

You should all be very proud of yourselves!

What of Wonderland?

I've seen a few comments from people online that Asylum will now be lost and forgotten. And if that were true, it would be sad news. But... That's NOT TRUE!

Our team is still working hard (and exclusively) on Alice: Asylum. And if Oz does get picked up by someone for TV production, I and the team will play a "creative advisor" role in the show. There are writers, showrunners, producers, and lots of other Hollywood People who will be in charge of the day-to-day work of bringing that show to life so... don't worry!

Positive Influence

It's also important to remember the success of an Oz project helps to raise awareness about our efforts on Alice: Asylum. And I can tell you that in the last couple of days we've already seen that dynamic at work! There's a NEW team of people (REDACTED 2.1?!) now working on legal/rights/biz dev stuff related to the Alice IP.

The effort from that team is directed at getting the IP back in our hands so that work can begin on a new game, a movie/TV series, and more.

But Wait! There's MORE!

And as you know (if you watched the live stream yesterday), we showed off a sneak peek of the Alice: Asylum Design Bible

Check out the Attachment to this post. That's the Design Bible Sample.

18 Pages of Beautiful Art, Story, and Design!!!

Created by our pre-production team and put together by Alex Crowley...

This gives you a sneak peek of the complete Design Overview we're putting together for Asylum. This PDF/Book will be used to "WOW!" potential publishers and investors into jumping in to support this project. We hope to give the suits over at EA an "eyegasm" so big they sign all the agreements and send all the checks in a fit of ecstasy and awe!

Download and enjoy!

And if you hear anyone say, "Asylum won't happen now," you shove that PDF so far in their eyeballs that they poop art and design for a week. Thanks.

Expect many more updates on this topic throughout 2021 with a final document being delivered around the end of the year.

See? No reason to cry, Alice fans...

And don't forget to leave your feedback and suggestions about the DB in the comments below. Like everything else we do here, this is a Crowd Design effort. So make your voice heard! Even if we don't directly respond to your comments here, we do take everything you're saying into account when making design/art decisions.

PS: I usually mark these sorts of high-value-content posts as Patrons Only but with this post, I'd like to get it out to the public while people are still talking about our team and projects. Hope you don't mind. The goal here it to raise awareness and share the fruits of our labor to help the project. Woo!

Don't mind at all I hope that it gets all the attention this deserves!

This is great news, and I am feelin' good about the chances here!

I am assuming the Latin is filler for now. Google didn’t want to translate it to anything readable, so I don’t know what’s going on there. Everything looks great in the Design bible. I like the flow and the “pause/review” idea on more in-depth info. I also enjoy that the starting pages acting like entering the game (pg. 8 “press start to play”). It does a nice job drawing you into the story starting. Being as it still is very early in development and not knowing the content to be loaded, it is hard to try and give ideas or critics as everything is still so fluid. Page 12, as an art print I like the small moon picture, but in the DB the large moon seems very fitting. I feel that having the text with the picture makes it so you want the moon as the focal point of the shot. As art on the wall though the moon is a bit to dominating. The only things I could think as far as input would be on page 23. The text refers to the Second Tutorial of basic movement, one of them is dress gliding. The accompanying photo looks like umbrella gliding. I am wondering if that was just there as an example of art or if you wanted it to be a picture of the second tutorial moves. Being as it looks more like an umbrella glid vs dress it might raise some questions. This I’m sure makes more sense and I’m just missing something. Chapters are, Slumber pg. 12-19, Denial Realm 20-25, then back to Slumber again? Slumber -Determination- 26, back to Denial Summary 27-34. Having the main title of Slumber show in the middle of the Denial area seems a bit odd. I did read through the whole DB a few days ago but just saw this while doing a glance through again right now. Don’t recall if there is more context for it in the text. Maybe have “Determination” be the larger font?

From a design concept, the bible here is off to an excellent start. The layout is easy to follow and understand, and the breaking out of a narrative portion followed by the more "behind the scenes" section makes sense and doesn't interrupt the flow of what is being read. Obviously there's a lot of work left to do, and making sure it remains consistent in terminology/iconography will be important but for a start this is great. I look forward to seeing this grow and develop (and if you ever need a proofreader, that was one of my jobs in the past!).

Dedicated and ditzy fan here !!! So excited for Oz and all of it's fascinating concepts and successes - but I am an Alice gal at heart - SOoooo - I am going to begin from the beginning and play through the games again - I am missing my Alice fix !! LOL So, very happy for all of the accomplishments and what is sure to be more wonderful news !!!! Hurray for OZ !!!!!

Thank you for all your hard work !! Looking forward to the game as I did the others! I remember playing the pc Alice way back in the day (im 22 so an eternity ago 🤣) and continued to play thrm throughout my child hood (AMR on Xbox 360) . Christoph Pleger

Awesome, can't wait

WOW! Thank you for your big work! You are the best team ever!

Hi all, just something I would like to point out and share with you all, is if you do download the Design Bible PDF, please also be sure to watch yesterday's Twitch stream, where American and I discuss the design decisions and rationale behind the choices we've made in the prototype together. (from around the 1:12:45 mark). https://www.twitch.tv/videos/927367450 The PDF attached is a very early "Work In Progress" designed more to showcase the proof of concept. The DB remains top priority in my workflow moving forward, so expect to see further updates and iterations as it takes shape and is refined as we go. Cheers!

Alex Crowley

So cool!!! I cant wait!!! Love it!!

Can’t wait to give this the full once over

Lucky Dragon ‘She.They’

Wow, this is even better looking now that I can see it up close in HD.

It's a long overdue project and opportunity! The better Oz does, the sooner Alice: Asylum can happen! Congratulations, and thank you so much for letting us all be involved!

Stephanie Groth

You'll need to provide more information about this question... Red what? Red where?

American McGee

I’m still so excited from yesterday’s stream! I’ll be diving into the design bible the first chance I get!

Nicholas Brokaw

Thanks so much!! I absolutely love this, especially the lil chibi Alice and Cheshire cat on the second page!!

*EDIT* Yay! Also, would you ever consider going with another color besides red with the tentacles and general theme of the design bible?
