Stefan cannot stop once he starts. Elena didn't know Stefan can't stop, it's a big thing he's kept from her. People have mentioned Stefan's lying to Elena, well this is a big one. Damon will do anything for Stefan. Miss Gibbons died because of Frederick's compulsion. The only way Damon could get into the house was to kill her. There was no other way around it. It was her or Stefan, and considering how many vampires he and Ric killed, I think they might have saved a lot of human lives as the vamps were going to take their revenge out on the town. Miss Gibbons would have died anyway, and was saved from the torture. She would have been aware of what was happening to her, but she has been compelled not to be scared, and to be happy to help them. She knows what is happening, but she thinks it is normal and is happy. They turned her into a slave. You might like Pearl and Anna, but they are the ones responsible for that. Anyone who turned before 1950 has fed from a live human. Damon is no longer a villain. Let's just say he is now surrounded by people who are having a positive influence on him. A large part of this show is about Stefan and Damon's bond as brothers. Regardless of the eternity of misery, Damon loves Stefan, and vice versa, which is why Damon didn't leave. Since they turned, they haven't spent much time together. Great reaction, looking forward to the next one as the show really picks up the pace from here on.
