I love this episode so much. I feel for Max and just like you i wished they could have saved him... Also your comment in the beginning how "Dean just wanted to have powers himself" lol. I mean, i'm a Sam girl, but come on. Dean is so against Sam having a supernatural power because he is worried for him. Hunters are kinda raised in this "black and white, not grey area" environment. Something like "people are usually good, monsters are bad". And something like that happening to Sam is not cool for Dean. So it's a little bit more complicated. But i will leave it here, because spoilers)
