Announcing: 2023 Reading Club
Added 2023-01-18 18:44:46 +0000 UTCThe 2023 Reading Club will broach three key themes to understand politics in our current era: FREEDOM, LEGITIMACY, GLOBALISATION.
This year we will focus on three key texts, one per theme:
- This Life: Secular Faith & Spiritual Freedom, Martin Hagglund, 2019
- Legitimation Crisis, Jurgen Habermas, 1973
- Adam Smith in Beijing: Lineages of the 21st Century, Giovanni Arrighi, 2007
Broadly speaking, we will deal with one book over the course of four months, and we will announce the specific reading in advance (be it a seletion from the book or other readings). For the first RC of 2023, we'll be discussing the first two chapters of Hagglund's This Life, in February (recording date tbc).
The episodes will be monthly and as always we encourage listeners to send us their questions in advance of recording – though we will deal with questions regarding the preceding episode too. We'll announce the date of our recordings and what we will be reading in advance.
Local Reading Clubs
If you want to join or form a local Reading Club where you are, get in touch with us and we'll coordinate it. You can hold your meetings before our recordings and have that generate questions for the three of us to discuss, or do it after ours and allow the episode to inform your own discussions.
