The Proposal (page 9)

I think we all know where this is going 🫢

What would you do in Mansa’s situation? Take your dream job and make your partner’s life easier monetarily but more difficult socially (possibly making him feel worse in a situation he already feels othered in), or walk away from the new opportunity and continue scrape by with your partner even though it’s putting strain on the relationship?

Oh Mansa 😔 it’s a difficult one. I’m used to doing things unilaterally so having this situation and a partner, it’s difficult to predict how I’d jump. Even if my mind was pretty much made up, I’d still want to sit down with said partner and talk it over to make sure they get a chance to air any concerns about it. That said, however Song is feeling, he has to remember Mansa isn’t a mind reader or the most adept at reading situations so I’d hope he’d use the opportunity well and be honest about his concerns ❤️

Obviously their current situation isn’t working and I personally loathe tf out of a commute so I’d probably express my desire for the job change to my partner and we’d figure out rest together. If their well being is central to my concern with this job, I would of course talk to them first before making any major moves *eyes Mansa from the original Proposal comic*

Especially in the real world, you'd need to talk to your partner if your dreams of the future don't match. I don't think their current situation matches right now either (Mansa working a job that's (nearly) abusive because he passed marriage rights while his partner isn't won't married and Song re-entering an abusive work place to ensure they can keep their home while his partner is drained/'unavailable'), but I get why they haven't talked, because they'd be losing their only good times and admitting they can't keep going. I also agree with others, that Algie will advise proposing (it's been ages now!) and then Mansa approaches it all pragmatically (This is why I'm pushing you now even when I said I'd wait for you to be ready) which isn't at all what Song-the-Romantic who needs reassurance that his "failures" won't bring him and Mansa down. (I would take the job but talk with my partner first about how to make them comfortable or if they could be comfortable with it. However, I'm very much not a romantic.)

I would talk to them about it and decide together. :)

yup, same. i was hoping someone would say this 😅

Also it breaks my heart how and sad exhausted Mansa looks here. Poor baby 😭

Honestly I would ask Song what he would prefer. Accepting a job like that would have a big influence on their life after all. Like Mansa, I would be uncomfortable just making a decision like that. But it does sounds like Mansa very considers much Songs wellbeing in this decision, which is sweet and says a lot about Mansa. And I agree with Caren, Thomas will probably tell Mansa to accept the Job and propose to Song. Probably because this is his chance at getting a better job as well. He probably doesn’t care that much about Songs struggles.

Option C: Talk to my partner because it affects us both and make a decision together.

Oh sweetheart 😭

Doesn't it just really say something important about Mansa though, that he's even considering/troubled by this aspect rather than just seeing it through the lens of his own level of privilege and blithely going about his day? It's certainly nowhere near the response The Evil Ex (tm) would have had.

whatever it would be, I'd probably talk with my partner first, explaining to them why I would choose the option I do choose 😔 and I'd probably go for the promotion in hopes that things will change with time and everything ❤️

I feel like Algie isn’t going to be the most supportive when it comes to issues with an internal partner 😬
