I’m late but more and more I appreciate Jean’s character. He was wavering. But one reminder of Marco just blows everything out of the water. He knows what his friend wants. It’s the living who gives meaning to the death of their comrades. 😭

Like Judea was destroyed by the Roman’s, and the Roman Catholics kicked out and persecuted the Jews, the Jewish community found refuge in the Middle East, North Africa, Eastern and Western Europe. When the Muslims gained control of Jerusalem when the Roman’s surrendered in Northern Arabia, the Muslims brought back the Jews to Jerusalem/Palestine 1,600 years ago. … it sort of sounds like Marley was helped within those 2,000 years… and it seems like factions of the Eldians are the ones that helped them like the Tybur Family, and The Royal Family. Who knows what happened in those 2,000 years since it’s a fictional story too lol.

Eren committed genocide for survival, to protect his friends and people. Marley wanted to commit genocide for resources of Paradis! They're both wrong but between a rock and a hard place, I choose to kill instead of being killed!

2024-06-01 18:45:07 +0000 UTCI fully support the rumbling. Ultimately there is not ethical or moral in this case. The ONLY 2 options are "All of Eldia is wiped out" or "The rest". Yes "the rest" is far more people, but it's no different to "If every single country in the real world right now thought of wherever you are from were demons and decided to kill y'all, would you lay down and die? Or would you instead, given the chance, wipe everyone else out? Ultimately for me, I'm still on the fence, I live in the UK, but I don't like it here much. If I were to have moved to America with my ex and was asked the question there, I'd have immediately chosen to wipe out the globe. Now I'm single and alone (family aside) in the UK, I may choose the UK to be wiped out. The issue isn't "justifying" genocide, it's that it's quite literally the only option presented to him. And while "he started it" is childish Marley did in fact "start it", once King Fritz of 100 years ago wiped their memories clean, they weren't in any capacity guilty anymore. Being from the UK my people have colonised more of the world than anyone pretty much, an approximate third. I feel NOTHING for that, it wasn't in my life time, I know no colonisers and I will NEVER feel bad or let people put me down for anything that happened over 50 years ago. Heck, even if my deceased father owned slaves, I would resent HIM, but I in of myself wouldn't feel bad, I've done nothing wrong. I think you're just not considering how this was the last resort, and there were literally only 2 options.

2024-05-09 09:54:42 +0000 UTCspoiler warning Eren being oppressed doesn't justify genocide. also saying Eren isnt evil is an insane take, he is directly responsible for more suffering than anyone to ever exist by a very large margin. and he was completely conscious of what he was doing the entire time. by the end of the story he is completely irredeemable, to suggest otherwise requires a complete lack of any sort of moral or ethical code

I think I struggle somewhat because my mind doesn’t try to apply this dilemma to our world. It’s so set in this being in the fictional fantasy category for me that I have a different answer then I’d have if this wasn’t a problem 2d characters were facing. As a Palestinian American with relatives living in the West Bank, my answer is with Hange. Genocide is wrong.

He’s committing genocide, in his mind, to save his people not because he thinks his people are superior. Hitler was evil. Eren isn’t evil. His plan is just shit but in his thinking it’s gonna be a genocide either way. Either his people or everyone else.
