Instead, a lot of times, he actively tries to just touch the ball enough to slow down its momentum, so the receivers can receive it. This improves his chances at blocking the ball statistically, but his blocks are less impactful in the moment. He's said previously that the system he follows for blocking is designed to build pressure and be impactful/effective over time. Rintaro just believes Kageyamas block was more impactful in the moment and therefore "scarier."
