Baby Bat Goes To School The Complete Story
Added 2021-12-09 02:45:44 +0000 UTC“Mom stop it,” said Bee as she tried to break away from Zatanna's grasp. Though she knew all too well that was fruitless endeavor. In her current state there was no way that she could break free from her mother’s grasp.
It has been over a year since Bruce Wayne was turned into Bee Zatara. At first the change was for scary for her. Acknowledging the fact that she could no longer fight crime or defend Gotham like she wanted to, devastated her.
All she ever wanted to do was be a hero; someone that would defend the weak and protect them so that they wouldn't end up like Bruce Wayne did. She wanted to make sure that no one had to experience the same pain that she did. Though for now she had to accept the fact that she couldn’t help anyone in her current state.
For now, all that mattered was growing up to become a greater hero than she was before. With the support from her friends, and family she's able to learn that this was her chance; a chance she never had. This new life of hers was a chance to relive a new life in the best possible sense, as well as regain a family that she once lost. Though it was still left uncertain if this new life will have a more cheerful future than her last.
“Bee, stop fussing young lady, or else do you want me to force you?” Zatanna said as she scolded Bee. Ever since her change Bee has been very fussy when she has to go out in public. Though that would end today as her little angel would be going to her first day of school!
“Mom do I really have to wear these?” Bee asked while giving Zatanna puppy dog eyes.
“Yes, you do,” Zatanna said firmly. “Those braces are there to help you learn how to pronounce spells. It takes years, and years of practice to get to a level where you can do it without them. Though eventually there will become a point where you will be able to do it unconsciously.”
“This is part of your training gear. If you want to be a proper sorceress when you grow up, you must learn the proper way. I took no shortcuts in my training, and neither will you. I don't care if you look dorky for a while, we all have to go through this phase.”
“It’s not that,” Bee said as her face turned red. She pointed down to a lower body to reveal she was still wearing a diaper under her pink skirt. Even after this entire year Bee was still dependent on her diaper. Though whether this was due to her still getting used to her new body, an after effect of the spell used to turn her into her current form or perhaps a new spell created by Zatanna has still yet to be found out.
“Bee, we talked about this,” said Zatanna as she put her hand on Bee’s head. “You know for a fact that you still can't control your bladder properly. Until we are for certain that you can, you’ll still have to wear them. It’s for the best. Besides you wouldn’t want to have any accidents at school now, would you?”
“Mom the other kids are going to make fun of me!” Bee yelled as tears started to form in her eyes. “Please don’t make me go to school like this! I'm begging you at least use a concealment charm or something!”
“Bee remember our promise. If you want no one to be able to see them then you’ll have to learn the spell yourself. If I do it for you, you’ll never learn.”
“Mom that spell is an eighth level magic! I can only do third level magic right now! Please just this once! I promise that I won’t ask you again!”
“Bee I am very happy that you're at the level you’re at right now, but as I said there can be no shortcuts. When I was your age all I could do were second level spells. Your progress is faster than most kids your age, but that still doesn’t mean that you get special treatment.”
“But mom if I go to school l like this the other kids going to make fun of me! Please don't do this to me! No one's going be there protect me, I'm scared!
“Shh. It's okay dear,” said Zatanna as she hugged Bee, comforting her child. “I know that you're not used to being near new people right now, but we have to help you grow. You need to learn how to interact others and make new connections, new friends that you can bond with in the future.”
“But I don't want to bond with any of those kids. They're all too young for me.”
“Bee if you haven't, you’re only four years old right now. It's a miracle that you're even allowed to enter kindergarten. Now on that bus young lady or am I going to use a spell to force you on?”
“Mom why do you do this all the time?” whined Bee as she walked out the door. “Couldn’t you just take me to school instead?”
“I’m sorry sweaty, but mommy has work today,” Zatanna said as she walked Bee to the school bus. “I promise that I’ll be there to pick you up after class. Just promise to not cause any trouble and make some friends.”
“I’ll try,” Bee said with a pouty face. “Don’t worry Bee, I promise you that there are going to be many other students that are just like you. Your mother wouldn’t send you to a normal school. Someone of your talents needs a more specialized education.”
“What are you talking about” asked Bee, but Zatanna just responded with a smile to her question, as she gently pushed Bee inside the bus.
As the bus doors closed Bee found herself a seat. Luckily for her there was no one else is on the bus at the time so she was able to put up a barrier with her backpack on the seat. Hopefully no one would come in and try to ask her to sit with her.
As time went by more and more kids entered the bus. During this time her backpack barrier kept the other kids away, but it would only work for so long.
“Umm, excuse me, can I sit here?” asked a blond-haired girl wearing a cute pink dress. “There’s nowhere else to sit.”
“Okay,” Bee said in a weak voice. Having this random girl come up and talk to her was confusing, but at least she wasn’t a boy. Bee remembered how rowdy she was when she was a boy this age and it only brought back shameful memories.
“Hi, my name’s Mary Louise Dahl, what’s yours?” the girl hand out her hand and waited for Bee to respond.
“I’m Bee Zatara, nice to meet you,” she said slowly as she grabbed Mary’s hand. “Are you starting today as well?”
Bee thought that it would be best to try and start a conversation with this girl. She didn’t look that dangerous and her instincts were telling her to take this chance. Plus her mother will be so amazed if she manages to make a friend today!
“Well duh, today’s the first day of preschool for all of us!” she said back to her with a smile across her face. “So, what is it?” she whispered in Bee’s ear.
“What?” Bee asked back confused.
“Your power silly.” “I, uh, don’t know what you’re talking about?” Bee didn’t know how to react that this girl knew she had powers. Hopefully she would be able to steer the conversation away from this topic.
“It’s fine,” said Mary. “You don’t have to hide it; we all have powers!” “What!?” Bee almost yelled in shock by her statement.
“Wait, did your parents not tell you?” Mary asked with a slightly confused look across her face. “Tell me what?” Bee asked back, trying to remember if Zatanna said anything about the students having powers.
“All my mother said was that this school was for kids like me. She didn’t mention that there were others that have powers as well.”
“It would seem that your mother neglected to tell you about our school,” said Mary with a huge smile across her face since she now had a girl that she could impart her wisdom upon. “Don’t worry, I’ll tell you all about this school so listen up.”
“This school is one for those with special talents just like us. Each one of us were either raised by hero’s or adopted to be enrolled in this school. Here we will train to develop our talents and grow as hero’s.”
“For example, my power is my higher-level intelligence. In addition to that let’s just say that I have a way with boys. I’m assume that your power is similar to mine.”
“Why do you say that?” Bee asked.”
“Well, for one, it’s because you’re the first person to talk to me like this.” “Oh, that’s a different reason,” said Bee hoping that she wouldn’t have to Mary that she was once Batman. “I’m currently learning to use magic. My mother’s teaching me.”
“That’s so cool! Does that mean that your mom’s Zatanna?” “How did you know?” Bee asked confused.
“We’ll it’s obvious, isn’t it? There aren’t that many female sorceresses out there and everyone knows that Raven’s kid is a year older than us.”
“This is so cool! I can’t believe that my first friend is the daughter if the Zatanna! She is by far my favorite superhero!”
“She is?” “Of course, she is! I mean who wouldn’t like to use magic? I want to learn so bad, but my dad won’t let me. He doesn’t believe in magic. He says that it’s just a form of science that has yet to be proven.”
“Who’s your dad?” Bee asked, now curious about her father. “Oh, my dad’s Mr. Terrific. It’s nothing big or anything.”
“You’re dad’s Mr. Terrific! He’s the third smartest person on the planet!” Bee yelled out in excitement. Even as Bruce Wayne, Bee admired Mr. Terrific. Just like Batman, he had no powers, but choose to fight crime anyway. It was a different method than Batman, but still it was effective.
“But wait, isn’t he-”
“Don’t worry, I’m not his biological daughter, but he still dots on me like I am. Dad’s pretty cool and he’s teaching method is very unique. I guess one of the reasons that he adopted me was because I can actually understand what he’s saying.”
“Though it kind of sucks not having a mom. He may be the third smartest person on the planet, but when it comes to buying me clothes, he has me do it since last time he bought me a lab coat.”
“I wish I could buy my own clothes,” said Bee as she tugged down on her skirt. I like the color pick, but I’m not used to bright clothes like this. I’m used to something that’s a bit darker.”
“Well, I think you look cute, plus that little package of yours makes you look that much more adorable!” she said as she pointed down to Bee’s diaper.
“You can see it!” Bee said in shock and embarrassment.
“Well of course I can,” Mary said as tears started to form in Bee’s eyes. “Oh wait, there’s no need to cry,” she said as she tried to calm Bee down. “I need them too,” she said as she lifted up the hem of her dress to reveal that she was also wearing a diaper.
“You need it as well?” Bee asked while trying to calm down. “Yeah. There’s no need to be ashamed by it, we’re only four years old there are going to be some of us that still need them. Don’t let it get you down.”
“Besides, if anyone tries to make fun of you for it, I’ll make sure that they regret it. No one will get any with making my friend cry!”
“Friend” “Of course you’re my friend! I already said it before, so don’t forget it this time. From today onwards you and I are going to be best friends!”
As the bus drove towards the school Bee and Mary began to talk more and more. It would seem that they were truly hitting it off.
There was even a moment that Bee forgot that she was once Batman. All that mattered was being here with her friend. She hoped that this relationship of theirs could last forever.
“Oh My God! Bee look!” yelled Mary as she pointed out the window as the bus was pulling up to what looked like a giant T-shaped tower! “I can’t believe we’re finally here!”
“It’s amazing!” Bee said in awe. She heard Dick and Cori talk about this place a lot, but she never had the time to come here until today. To be honest though she was happy that she could experience this moment with a friend.
“I can’t believe that the alumni members of the Teen Titians are going to be training us! I heard that only a few of them only went on to join the Justice League, but that’s only because heroes like Beast Boy and Nightwing thought that they could contribute more by not joining the League, though some say that they are unofficial members!”
“No wonder mom didn’t tell me,” Bee said to herself. Zatanna wanted this to be a surprise for Bee. If she knew that she was going here for school than she wouldn’t have been as nervous as she was and she probably wouldn’t have hit it off so well with Mary if she did.
“Did you say something?” Mary asked as she looked back at Bee. “No, I was just amazed that we’re actually going here.”
“I know right! Maybe I’ll be able to meet Raven!” “You might,” Bee said as the bus stopped, and the other kids started to climb out of the bus. “Come on let’s go!” Mary yelled in excitement as she grabbed Bee’s hand and led her out of the bus with the other kids.
Once out the bus driver who looked oddly familiar to Bee gave all the kids a wave goodbye and then drove off. From there they were all left alone in a courtyard wondering what to do next, though they didn’t have to wait for long.
Within seconds a green falcon flew down in front of them and transformed into the one and only Beast Boy. Though to call him Beast Boy at his age was a bit weird since he was now in his early twenties.
“Good morning students!” yelled Beast Boy with a giant smile across his face. “I see that once again we have a few new faces here this year! While there aren’t that many, I’m still glad to see that our number has grown!”
Bee looked around and saw that among all the students there were only three others besides her and Mary that looked like they were the same age. It would seem that everyone else were older than them, by one to five years.
“Oaky, for returning students please head towards your respected classes, and for the new kids please wait here for orientation!”
As the older kids left, Bee hung close to Mary as the other three kids walked toward them. Two of the kids were boys and they looked very rowdy, and the last one was a girl with black hair who looked very shy and meek.
“Okay, it looks like we have five new students joining us today! Before we head inside how about we all begin with some sell introductions? I’ll go first.”
“My name is Garfield Logan, but my superhero name is Beast Boy. I have the power to transform into any animal, and that includes extinct animals as well as extraterrestrial animals.”
All the other kids were in awe by this, but Bee knew that it was more exciting to see these animals up close. Beast Boy has much potential that he has yet to unlock, and it would be interesting to see what happens during her time here.
“Okay, so who’s next?” he asked as he looked around, hoping for there to be a volunteer.
“Me! I’m next,” said the arrogant looking blond-haired boy. “My name is Connor Hawke and I’m the son of the green arrow! I don’t have any powers, but that won’t stop me from becoming a greater hero than the Batman!”
“Very good Connor,” said Beast Boy. Hold onto that ambition of yours and strive to be the best hero that you can be.”
“I’m next! I’m next yelled the red-skinned boy. “My name is Limmy and I’m the adopted son of Green Lantern! My power is this!” he yelled up as he held up a red ring in his hand! “I have the power of the Red lantern Corps!”
“Careful now,” Beast Boy said as he gently lowered Limmy’s arm down. “That’s a powerful weapon you have there. It’s going to take time for you to learn how to wield that power.”
“Fine,” Limmy said with a pout. I just wanted to show everyone it.” “That’s fine. I promise there will be a chance to showcase your powers and talents latter on.”
“Okay let's see, how about you?” Beast Boy asked as he pointed over to the black-haired girl.
“My…name is Milagro Reyes. I’m Blue Beetle’s sister. I have the pink scarab. Though I don’t know how to use it, I’m sorry.” Milagro talked quietly, but it was clear enough for everyone to understand.
“Oh, your Jamie’s sister. I’ve trained with him so I should be able to help you. I knew a thing or two about getting a scarab to listen to you.”
“Okay onto the last two!”
“My name is Mary Louise Dahl, and I am the daughter of Mr. Terrific. I have a higher-level intelligence, and I hope that we can all get along.”
“Concise and to the point, can’t say I don’t like that kind of attitude. Now what about you?”
Bee was pretty sure that the Titians knew about her situation, but she was going t try and make a good first impression for these kids.
“My name is Bee Zatara. My mother is Zatanna and just like her I am learning how to use magic. I hope that we can all get along from now on.”
Crinkle
As Bee was doing her introduction her diaper let out a loud crinkle and she just stood there in shock! Both Beast Boy and Mary knew of this, but everyone else did not.
“Oh my god! She’s wearing a diaper!” yelled Connor as he began to mock her. “This is a school for future superhero’s not a school for babies! You should go home to your mommy and daddy! Oh, wait you don’t have a daddy!”
Bee knew that all the insults she was receiving were coming from a child, but in her current state of shock those words hit her like a brick! Tears began to roll down her eyes as she had an accident.
“Look she even wets herself like a baby!” Connor yelled. It would seem that he was the only one enjoying this and it did not make Mary happy.
“Says the boy that just wet himself!” she yelled at him in furious tone.
“Shut up you’re just a-” Connor stopped when he realized that he had just wet himself. He cried tears of embarrassment, while Beast Boy tried to calm him down.
“It’s okay, it happens, here let me take you to the nurses office and we’ll get you a change of clothes. As for you Miss Dahl, head down to the headmaster's office.”
“What! That’s not fair! He started this!”
“Yes, but you used your powers against him. We have a zero-tolerance policy for that. Now go to the headmaster's office, or I’ll be forced to call your father.”
“This isn’t fair, she was just trying to help me!” yelled Bee as she was wiping the tears from her face. “She shouldn’t be punished for trying to help me!”
“I don’t have time for this, you two go to the headmasters, and the rest of you come with me,” Beast Boy said as he led the other students away from them.
“This sucks! It’s not fair!” yelled Mary as her and Bee walked inside the building. Once there they asked the security guard where the headmasters office was, and he led the way for them.
About five minutes later they reached the headmasters office, and the security guard left them. Bee knocked on the door and seconds later it opened.
Once inside the office Bee and Mary saw that the headmaster was none other than Nightwing. He smiled as he saw Bee and he smiled once again when he saw Mary by her side. He was happy to see that Bee had already made a friend.
“Well, well,” he said calmly as he stood up and walked over to them. “Not even an hour into the first day and there are already a few troublemakers.”
“Sir I can explain!” yelled Mary as she stepped forward.
“It’s fine,” he said as he kneeled down in front of her. “I heard everything from Beast Boy. You’re not in trouble. In fact, I want to thank you for standing up for you friend. True while we a have a no tolerance policy for using your powers on other students, you did it for the right reasons.”
“Connor Hawke is not the nicest kid. Being the son of Green Arrow isn’t easy, so he’s learned a few bad habits. Your power is interesting to say the least and for that reason you’ll be learning under both Raven and Cyborg. This would usually have to wait until your latter years, but for now we can call this extra work your punishment.”
“I get to learn magic!” Mary was thrilled to hear that she could learn magic that she could barely hold back her excitement.
“Yes, just don’t tell your father, I doubt he’d be happy about that.” ‘I promise!” “That’s good to hear. Now, as for Bee I think that we should have a little talk alone, don’t you think?”
“Sir, Bee didn’t do anything wrong!” “I know I just need to talk with her for a bit, and if possible, help her get cleaned up.”
“It’s fine Mary,” said Bee as she reassured Mary with a light smile. “I’ll met up with you latter.” “Fine, but I won’t forgive you if you make her cry!”
“I promise I won’t, now run along, Beast Boy should be outside by now to show you where to go.”
As Mary left, she gave Bee a small wave goodbye and Bee did the same.
“So, I can see that you already found yourself a friend,” said Nightwing with a smile. “Though would it kill you not to make such a scene happen on your first day?”
“Sorry, my emotions got the better of me,” Bee said back to him. “I’ve been trying to control my emotions as I did before, but mom’s parenting style has made it hard to do so. At times I can’t help but cry.”
“That’s fine. You’re just a kid, but you shouldn’t have your friend use her powers on another student. Violence isn’t the answer here. We have a duty to help the next generation of hero’s grow. Infighting won’t help that.”
“That was never my intention. In fact, she did it to protect me. Though I can’t say that I’m not glad that she did though. Plus, to see her do that to Ollie’s kid was pretty funny.”
“Just try not to make a habit of picking fights.”
“I won’t make any promises.” “Please don’t tell me that you’re already making another secret file on your classmates.”
“You say that like it’s a bad thing.” “That’s because it is! Bee even as Batman that crossed many lines. Trying to do the same thing to kids that you just met it messed up.”
“Says the guy who let a girl with Reach tech and a boy from the Red Lantern Corps in his school. You should be prepared since they will be the most dangerous ones here.”
“Actually, the one that we all have to worry about is you. Bee, you have all your knowledge as Batman, along with his skills and you’re even learning magic! You might actually be able to take down all of us one day if we aren’t careful.”
“I know, that’s why decided to have you as my fail safe. Dick even as a child I see that you have grown into fine adult. If I do become a threat, I know that you’ll be able to take me down Now enough with all this foreboding talk, it’s not good for someone my age.”
“Really? Using the age card.” “What can I say, I’m only four years old.” “You know despite everything I have to say that this change did make you more looser. It suits you.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment, now if you would…change me… it’s starting to get a bit annoying now.” Bee tugged at her skirt hoping that Dick wouldn’t notice how much she wet herself.
“Oops, sorry about that! Let’s get you cleaned up.”
Ten minutes later after Bee was Changed and given a new set of clothes Dick walked her out of his office and into the hall. There he led her to her first class.
“Just like with Mary you’ll have two instructors as well. The first will be Raven and the second will be Damien. Raven will help you with your magic while Damien will help you get adjusted to your new body. You may remember how to fight, but it’s different due to your body. Personally, I wanted to be the one to teach you, but I can’t due to my obligations as headmaster.”
“Is Damien still mad?” Bee asked. Ever since they last met Bee had been worried that Damien wouldn’t be able to forgive her. Choosing to stay in this form and try living this new life was selfish of her, but she knew that it was for the best.
Damien couldn’t accept that the great and powerful Batman had been reduced to a little girl whose favorite color was now pink. To be honest he had every right to be upset, but since that first meeting, they haven’t talked once.
“He’s calmed down about it,” said Dick. True the change was hard for him to accept, but over time he came to terms with it. Plus, I think that he might be a bit too thrilled about training you. Compared to the other kids, you’ll be just like he was at your age; a prodigy.”
“There’s no doubt that he will force you to spare with him whenever he gets the chance. Be careful though, I believe that he wants to train you the same way that they League of Assassins trained him.”
“Well, I can’t say that won’t be interesting, so when do we start?” “After you go through your educational classes. This is a school so please bear with it even though what you will be learning today is basically for babies, but hey you were the one that said that you are only four, so good luck.”
Dick then opened the door to the nearest classroom and quickly shoved her inside, leaving her standing there in embarrassment while the teacher and the other student's eyes were drawn to her.
“So glad of you join us,” said Aqua girl as Bee stood there in shock. “If you would please take the seat next to miss Dahl so we may begin.”
Bee quietly walked over to where Mary was sitting and sat down next to her. There they both gave each other a small smile as they listened to Aqua girl.
“Let me be one of the first to say congratulations on being accepted into our fine school. Each one of you has unique talents that will be used to help the world. It is our duty as teachers to make sure that you learn to harness your powers for the greater good.”
“I sure that a few of you know already, but each one of you will be assigned personal tutors who are best suited to train you. This will be in addition to your regular education. Though for two of you I am sure that this will be nothing more than a nuisance.”
Aqua girl looked right at Mary and Bee when she said that, but the other students didn’t seem to realize that. Conor and Limmy were busy talking with each other while Milagro was keeping her head down.
“Okay, let’s get started!” Aqua girl said with a smile.
From there the first half of the day went pretty fast for Bee and Mary. Between the two of them everything they were learning was child’s play. Even for Milagro it was simple enough. Bee assumed that it had to be due to the scarab's influence.
From there Bee was led to where her first tutor was. She was led to Damien. Unfortunately for her she wasn’t the only one there. Along with several other students that she saw earlier in the day there was also Connor Hawke.
“What the heck are you doing here baby? This class is only for those that know how to fight. Not someone like you. We don’t need your prissy little magic here.”
“Agreed,” said Damien as he stepped forward. “Magic and all other powers are forbidden in this room. All that matters here is strength and skill.”
“Mr. Robin it is an honor to meet you!” yelled Connor as he was fawning over Damien. “You are so amazing! To be trained by both the League of Assassins as well as Batman; you’re a legend!”
“Quiet. I don’t care for kiss asses. Now shut up and listen.” Damien walked Bee and Conner to an empty spot in the room and made them face each other.
“As I said, all that matters here is strength and skill. Prove to me that you are worth my time.”
“Sir?” Connor was confused, but Bee understood what he wanted her to do. She took a ready stance and waited for the signal.
“What? Is there a problem?” “Sir, she’s a girl. I can’t fight a girl.” “Pathetic. A warrior doesn’t care about gender. A true warrior is trained not to see gender. To hesitate because one is a girl is a weakness.”
“But sir, she’s just a girl and she only knows magic. There’s no way that she can fight me.” “And who says that she can’t fight? Begin!”
Within a few seconds after that Connor found himself on him ass with a bloody nose! Bee’s expression had turned dark for a second, but it returned to normal after she realized what she did.
“I’m sorry!” she said as she tried to help Connor up, but he smacked her hand away, and walked away.
“So, it would seem that your instincts are still there,” said Damien as he looked at her. “It looks like I will still be able to salvage you.”
“Damien, you shouldn’t have had me do that,” Bee said back to him, furious at herself for letting her instincts take over. “He’s just a child.”
“And so was I. At his age I was already sparing against League of Assassin members. He shouldn’t be given any freebies. Life isn’t fair. If it was my father wouldn’t have run away from who he was.”
“Damien, that’s not true! I was given this chance!” “A chance to be a coward! Batman never needed magic to fight his battles, and neither will you. I will make sure to train you that you will never need magic to win a fight!”
“Damien-”
“Dismissed!” Damien yelled at Bee as he walked away. It would seem that trying to mend their relationship would take more time than Bee initially thought.
From there Bee made her way to the cafeteria. Once there she saw that Mary was already sitting down eating her lunch. As Bee made her way over to her, she saw that she was also sitting next to Milagro.
“Bee over here!” Mary yelled as she saw Bee heading towards her. Seconds later Bee sat down next to her. “Where’s your lunch?” Mary asked as she noticed that Bee neither brought a lunch nor bought one.
“Hcnul reappa!” said Bee and seconds later a small brown bag appeared in front of her. “My mother taught me that one,” she said with a smirk.
“OMG! That was amazing! I’ve always dreamed of seeing magic up close and it’s even cooler than I imagined!”
“It’s nothing that big,” Bee said as she began to blush. “It’s just a simple cloaking charm. I had the bag on me when I walked in. I just wanted it to seem like it came out of thin air.”
“That’s still amazing! I can’t wait to have class with Miss Raven! I can’t wait to be doing spells just like that!”
“Was Cyborg’s class that uneventful for you?” Bee asked.
“Of course not! Cyborg may not be as intelligent as my father, but he’s far more fun; right Milagro.”
“Um, yeah. Mr. Cyborg let us showcase our powers. It was fun,” Milagro said back to them quietly. She kept her head down, but Bee could see that she was smiling.
“Bee you should have seen her. Her scarab is adorable! When she’s armored up, she looks just like a little pink fairy!”
“Please stop, the scarab is embarrassed,” she said back.
“Wait, the scarab is alive?” Mary looked a bit shocked to learn that, but Bee knew that all along. Every scarab produced by the Reach had an AI embedded inside of them so that they could learn and grown with their user. Since Milagro was just a child that’s exactly what the scarab was, a child.
Milagro nodded her head, and Mary smiled. “That means that I now have three new friends instead of two.”
“Three?” “Of course,” said Mary. “First there’s Bee, then there’s you, and finally there’s your scarab.” “I’m your friend?” Milagro looked a bit nervous, but Bee knew that what Mary said was true.
“Of course, you’re our friend,” said Bee, as she and Mary grabbed her hands. “The four of us are friends from now on.”
Bee knew that befriending two, no three girls on her first day of school was a bit rash, but it didn’t feel awkward for her. In fact, it felt natural. Just wait until her mother hears about this. She’s sure to give Bee such praised for doing her best.
“Oh, by the way, what is your scarabs name?” Mary asked as they all sat down. “She says her name is Pino.” “Well Pino thank you for being our friend.”
After lunch was over Mary and Bee made their way over to Raven’s class. There were several other students already there, but they were already preoccupied.
In the center of the room was Raven. She levitated off the ground as she meditated, but just because her eyes were closed didn’t mean that she was unaware of their presence.
“Mary Louis Dahl and Bee Zatara, welcome,” she said as she opened her eyes. “It is an honor to receive two new students. I hope that my teachings will be able to show you the proper path to your magical journey’s.”
“The pleasure is ours,’ said Mary and Bee at the same time.
Bee knew how strong Raven was and the suffering she had to endure because of her father Trigon. Besides her mother and Dr. Fate she was one that could help Bee advance in her training.
“The daughter of MR. Terrific and the daughter of Zatanna, truly a most interesting combination. One how already has the basic knowledge of magic and the other with absolutely none. It will be most interesting to see how the two of you develop.”
“Miss Raven, can I really learn magic?” Mary asked as she grabbed Bee’s hand for support.
“Is there any reason why you shouldn’t?” “My father says that-” “Shh, your father isn’t here. In this school you are free to learn the things that you want. There is no shame in trying to be like your parents, but that doesn’t mean that you have to be an exact replica of them.”
“I should know that better than anyone. My father was an all-powerful demon. He used his powers for evil, but I use my powers for the greater good.”
“You’re here because I know that you have potential. I know about your little gift, and I was most amusing to watch it in action. Though there is so much more that you can do with that power besides silly pranks.”
“I can teach you, but only if you are open to it.” “I am,” said Mary back happily.” “Good. I’ll make sure to turn you into a fine sorceress. Now if you would go over there to where Thirteen is we can get you started.”
Mary gave Bee a big smile and ran over to where Thirteen was. In doing so Bee was left alone with Raven.
“Your friend is very energetic; I am most pleased to see that. Now as for you, we won’t start you training just yet.”
“What do you mean?” Bee was confused. She had already learned the basics of magic that her mother taught her so why wouldn’t she be able to train with the rest of the students?
“Your mother has informed me of your situation, and there is a solution to it.” “You mean?” “Yes, your identity disorder. I know who you were before the change, and I can see from your aura that there is still a large part of you that holds onto the person that you once were.”
“If you continue to hold onto your past then you will be unable to move forward to the future. I am not telling you that you should completely get rid of that part of you, but you shouldn’t let that side of you control who you will become. You are Bee Zatara, the daughter of Zatanna. Focus on that instead of focusing on the past.”
“But how should I do that?” Bee asked. “I want to live as Bee Zatara, but I don’t want to give up Batman. I don’t want to give up on me.”
“You have it flipped around. By fully accepting that you are Bee Zatara you will be granting yourself the chance to live. There is a spell that I have prepared for this with the help of Dr. Fate. By using it you should be able to confront these feelings at the source.”
Raven led Bee to a connecting room. Inside was a magical circle written on the floor. Surrounding it were eight candles. Raven waved her hand as they entered, and the candles lit up with purple flames.
“Enter the circle and sit down,” she said.
“Are you sure about this?” asked Bee.
“Yes. In order for you to fully become Bee Zatara is to confront your past head on. For that you need to enter your mind and confront your darkness.”
“I can’t say that it will be easy. Nor can I say that you will like what you will see once there. This may be scary for you, but juts think of it as the next step that you have to complete in this stage in your journey.”
“I understand,” Be said as she sat down in the center of the circle. Please tell me what I have to do.”
“First close your eyes. Now think about when you first decided to become the Batman. Think back to that time. Imagine it inside your head. What do you see?”
“I see the alleyway where it all began. I see a boy crying over the bodies of his parents, and the man that killed them running away. No one was there to help them.”
“But was that your fault. It couldn’t have been prevented.” “It could have if I was stronger. I could have saved them.”
“Maybe, but as of now that is not your past. That is Bruce Wayne’s past, not yours. You are Bee Zatara. At one point you were Bruce Wayne, and many people may wish for the bat’s return, but you cannot deny the happiness that you’ve experienced up till now.”
“If Thomas and Martha Wayne were all right now, they would be happy that you got another chance to stay over. The darkness can’t hurt you here, not as Bee Zatara.”
“But can’t it? If the Batman isn’t around to help everyone then think of the state that Gotham is in now. Maybe Damien was right.”
“Don’t say that. If I know anything it’s that if you believe that this choice made for you was the wrong one, then you would have done everything in your power to change it. Living in fear is not something that your friends wanted for you.”
“You have to move on, that’s why I have decided to show you him.”
“What are you talking about?” Bee asked, confused by what Raven meant.
“I believe that she is talking about me.”
Bee instantly turned around and saw that Batman was standing behind her!
“How are you here? I’m still here so you shouldn’t be able to exist!” Bee started to panic a bit, noticing that Raven was no longer talking to her.
“Calm down. I am not here to fight you, only to talk,” Batman said as he looked down at Bee with sad eyes.
“To think that I let them turn me into this. I never thought out of all my contingencies plans for the League that they would have one for me as well. It really took me off guard.”
“Regardless of what I think I’m here to ask you something. Are you happy?”
“What? Shouldn’t you already know that?” Bee asked, confused why Batman was asking her this when he should already know everything that she does.
“I don’t. I am you before you became Bee Zatara. The true Batman. You are your own person. While you may have the memories of the time that you were Batman, that doesn’t mean that you will ever have to be Batman again.”
“Remember what we did for Dick, Jason, Damien and the others. We took them in and trained them, so they didn’t have to become like us. The title of Batman is one that no one but Bruce Wayne could carry.”
“You’re no longer Bruce Wayne so trying to become Batman again is impossible. What matters right now is that you live your life. Don’t be held down on the past. Dick is willing to help you through this and so are all the other Titians. It’s best that you take the opportunity that they are giving you.”
“What about Damien? I failed him as a father. I couldn’t be there for him and now he resents us.” “That’s not true. You should know very well that if he resented us, we would already have several broken ribs.”
“People may misjudge him and think that he’s a cruel person, but in fact he was always the one that cared the most. I believe the reason that he keeps trying to force his image of me onto you is that he doesn’t want to lose you.”
“When he came to us, he was just a child, and he still is a child. He wants you to train with him because he still wants to spend time with you. It’s best if we let him cope with this in his own way, just as you are coping with this change now.”
“What will happen to you once the spell disappears?” Bee asked as she saw Batman start to fade away.
“I will go back to where I belong. I will always be a part of you, but right now I need to be less apart of your life. Just look at what you’ve done so far since you’ve became Zatanna’s daughter.”
“Learning magic is something that we could never have done as the Batman. Having friends is something that we couldn’t afford either. Zatanna wanted you to meet with me because she saw the regret in your eyes.”
“You don’t have to be ashamed that you became what you are. Just continue to live the same way that you have been without focusing on me.”
“So let me ask you one more time. Are you happy?”
“Yes.”
As Batman faded back into the darkness. When Bee opened her eyes again, she saw that Raven was standing over here with a worried face.
“Bee are you alright?” she asked as she helped Bee to her feet. “The spell went a bit out of control at the end. I hope that you didn’t experience something unpleasant.”
“Not at all,” Bee said back to her with a smile. “Actually, what I saw back there was what I needed to move on. I can’t focus on the past anymore. What’s done is done. Now I have to focus on the future.”
“If I didn’t know who you already were I would be surprised to see this level of maturity in a child. Your mother must be so proud of you.”
“She is,” said Bee with a smug look across her face.
“Well, now that we have that covered, I won’t have any problems teaching you from here, though that will have to wait for another day. While you were in your trance school ended, though it would seem that there are two, no three people waiting for you outside.”
“Thank you Ra- Miss Raven. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.”
When Bee made it out of the classroom, she was surprised to see that Mary, Milagro and Pino were waiting for her.
“Jeez, Bee you're so late that we missed the bus,” said Mary with a small pout that soon turned into a smile.
“Miss Raven told us that you were doing some training and lost track of time. I like magic, but you take it to a whole new level.”
“I’m sorry,” said Bee, as she apologized to her friends. “My mom should be here soon to pick me up. “I’ll ask her to give you guys a ride home.”
“Zatanna is coming here to pick you up!” Mary yelled, unable to hold in her excitement. “Today is the best day ever! Come on what are you guys waiting for let’s go!” she yelled as she grabbed Bee and Milagro by the arms and dragged them to the front entrance where Zatanna was already waiting for them.
“Bee how are you my little angel?” she asked as she picked her up in her arms.
“Mom, put me down, you’re embarrassing me in front of my friends,” Bee said as she tried to wiggle free from her mother’s grasp.
“Oh, my I didn’t know that you had company,” she said as she put Bee down. “It’s already your first day and you’ve already made two friends. Mommy is so proud of you!”
“Mom it’s not two friends, it’s three,” Bee said correcting her.”
“I’m sorry, where is the third one?” Zatanna looked around but was still confused that she could only see two other girls in front of her.
“Mom you’re being insensitive, she’s right there,” Bee said as she pointed at Milagro.
“I believe that it would be better if we introduce ourselves,” said Mary as she stepped forward. “My name is Mary Louis Dahl, and I am your daughters first friend.”
“I’m Milagro Reyes, and this is Pino,” she said as a little pink arm came out from her back.
“Oh, your Mr. Terrific’s daughter and your Jamie’s sister. I know both of them very well. And to the three of you, thank you for taking care of my daughter today. She’s a bit shy and needs to work on her confidence so I thank all three of you.”
“Mom, they missed the bus because of me, can we give them a ride home?” Bee asked while pleading to her mother.
“I can do you one better, who wants ice cream?”
All the girl's eyes lit up. “Yes!”
“Okay then hop on in!” she yelled as Mary and Milagro ran into her car. “Well, my little angel it looks like you made yourself some pretty great friends. I can tell that your time at school will be a great experience for you. Now come on, I don’t think that we can keep these girls from ice cream that long.”
“Yes mom,” Be said as she followed her mother into the car.
