That Time I Got Reincarnated Into A Goblin Girl Chapter 6

About a month had passed since that fateful day, and things started to change around my home. My uncle had started staying out later, and my mother was quieter than usual. My so-called father was a real jerk for treating her the way he did.

Though besides that, Sola and Tully have come around more often even though my mother tried convincing them that it was dangerous near us. Though they didn’t care and kept me company while my family was busy.

“And there,” Sola said, placing the flower crown over my head.

“Abadbo,” I said unconsciously, going to feel the crown.

“Tully show her what you made,” Sola said.

“Um… it’s not as good as y-yours,” Tully said back to her.

“It’s fine; besides, this way, she gets to wear things that we both made for her,” Sola said, encouraging her to show it to me.

“A-al-alright,” she said, slipping the flower bracelet onto my right arm.

“Oh my, now don’t you three look adorable,” my mother said, coming out of the house.

“It was my idea,” Sola said proudly. “And Tully helped!”

“Well, aren’t the two of you just the sweetest,” my mother said before picking me up into her arms. “I can see that Illya really enjoys your company,” she said, poking my nose and causing me to giggle a bit.

“And we enjoy her company as well,” Sola said to my mother. “I can’t wait until she can talk and walk; then, we can have some real fun!”

“Of course, you can, mother said back to them. “Now, you two run along. Illya and I have a big day planned.”

“Alright!” the two girls said as they wished us goodbye. Though I was confused about why my mother would send them off. I could have sworn that there was nothing else going on today.

My mother brought me inside before putting me in a basket to carry me in. A few minutes later, she walked out into the woods carrying me. While the scenery was nice, I was confused by what we were doing.

“Don’t worry, mommy’s just going to meet with a friend of your uncles,” she said, noticing the worried look across my face.

From there, I think that around a half hour or so passed since we left our home. It wasn’t long after that we reached a new house in the middle of the woods. I had never been this far out of the village before, so I was more than curious about who lived inside.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

My mother knocked on the door three times before it opened, revealing a woman with blood-red hair who was wearing a black dress.

“Oh, so you arrived, the woman said to my mother. “Please come in.” For some reason, as the woman talked, I could help but think that she sounded different from all the goblins that I heard talking before, almost like an accent, but different.”

“I’m sorry I couldn’t come sooner,” my mother said in that strange accent as the woman. “Making sure that he isn’t around or watching takes time.”

“One would have to take many precautions when dealing with that brute, now wouldn’t they?  Either way, being a day or two late makes no difference to me. As a witch, my lifespan is far longer than yours and that of humans. It’s insignificant to think of this as an inconvenience.”

“So, this must be the lovely little baby I’ve been hearing about,” she said as my mother sat the basket down on the table for the woman to see. “You know, for a quarter human, she doesn’t really look like a goblin at all. Well, that is if you look past her skin and her lovely light green hair of hers. Based on the size of her ears, she looks closer to a half-elf. Are you sure that you mated with another goblin?”

“Very sure,” my mother said back to her.

“Just messing around a little bit,” the woman said, stroking my small amounts of hair. “I can see now why you would come to me, but you do know that there is no permanent solution for what you want me to do. If you give me a few years, I might be able to make a stronger dosage.”

I had no idea what they were talking about, but I knew that it had something to do with me.

“As for my payment, I am sure that your brother told you already what has to be done?” the woman asked ominously.

“My-my brother said that h-he would take care of the care of the c-cost,” my mother said, her voice starting to sound shaky. What was the cost? What did she have to pay?

“Well, that was for then, and this is for now,” the woman said. “A stronger dosage means that it will cost more. It’s just common logic.

“Fine, if it will help protect her, then I am willing to do whatever it takes,” my mother said confidently though I still didn’t know what she had to pay and what she was trying to protect me from.

“If you go over into the next room, I have prepared everything already for you,” she said to my mother, pointing her to an open door. “Oh, and don’t ask me for help. While I do need it, I can’t bear looking at it while it's being extracted. The sight of blood being drawn makes me feel queasy. I’ll just stay back with this cute little one while you get everything sorted out. I don’t need too much today, so hopefully, it should take you too long.”

“Agbdu?” I called out to my mother, grabbing her attention as she stood up.

“It’s alright, sweety,” my mother said, giving me a small kiss on the forehead. “I’ll be right back; it’s just a small sample, so mommy should be fine,” she said, walking into the next room, before closing the door, leaving me alone with the witch.

“You really are quite something,” the witch said, poking me in the nose. “To think that there would be a goblin so cared for by her own kind. Goblins are mainly brutes, but it would seem that you were born in a decent enough village, despite your circumstances.”

“The goddess does work in mysterious ways, little one. I can see your fate. Such a jumbled mess it is. Does it even have an ending yet? It would seem that the goddess has had a part to play in your fate as well. I wonder what future you will end up in.”

“Agooo?” What was she talking about? How was she able to see my so-called fate?

“Aww, such a curious little spirit you have. I do hope that you use that curious nature wisely in the future, though doing so will not always lead to a fate that is pleasant. Nothing is set in stone, and everything is changing. Eventually, that mixed soul of yours will change as well, leading you to a specific turning point in your life.”

Hmm? What did she mean by “mixed soul”? How much did this witch actually know?”

“Alright… I’m done,” my mother said, coming out of the room with a small bottle of red liquid, which I assume was blood.

“Good, good, good,” the witch said, picking out the bottle and placing it on a shelf. “This will help me out greatly. I hope that the needle wasn’t too long. I got it off a black-market seller since I have to get new ones every time they’re used, and they’re not always the same.”

“It’s fine,” my mother said, trying to pick up the basket for us to leave, but the witch stopped her.

“What’s the rush? The witch asked her. “You should stay for a bit longer. There’s no rush,” she said, smiling at me.

“I have to get back,” my mother said to her, trying to pull the basket out of the witch's grasp. “If I’m not back home soon, then he will find out.”

“Oh, well, if you insist, then you can go,” the witch said, smiling at my mother. “But I would prefer to spend some extra time with your daughter.”

“No, I won’t leave her side!” my mother yelled at her.

“It’s fine,” the witch said as the air around me felt like it was getting heavier, making me feel sick.

“It-it’s fine,” my mother said back to her in a trance-like state as she walked out of the witch's home without a fight.

“Don’t worry, I promise that I will bring her back soon!” the which said cheerfully, waving my mother away before closing the door to her home.

“Now, my little mixed soul, since mommy’s gone, I believe that we now have a chance to talk.”
