Hello! It's been some time since I've posted but I've still been hard at work on Kobold Garden. Most has to do with some big changes I've been testing for feasibility.
To all Royalbolds, I have not forgotten you! Most have been waiting a super long time for your models and I want to apologize for that. I may need a bit more time as I need to redo most of them to keep consistency among models in-game but because of this I'll be giving a large cut of my time in the coming months to make up for it. I plan to have the earliest Royalbold pledges done this month with later ones in order of when you pledged later in the year with the newest Royalbolds near the end of the year. Thank you so much for your patience, almost there!
The biggest change is model quality. The very first thing I made for Kobold Garden was the kobold model meant as a placeholder. I had the idea of replacing it later on but kept it this long as many seemed to like it. I do have a grand vision for kobold garden though and it feels like it's time to replace these models. Above is where the current kobold model is currently, needs some more tweaking and actual texturing but it's roughly the quality I'm going for with models. The legacy kobold model will still be in-game but will most likely be a special egg in shops.

The next thing is performance. One of the biggest not good things about Kobold Garden is how resource heavy and how badly it performs with the culprits name being terrain. The infinite terrain chunk system currently in use uses large 4k terrains (the most optimal size with anything larger or smaller being worse) loaded at runtime so I'll be switching to a terrain streaming solution. Used by most open world games, it renders close terrain at high quality with further being lower. The world can still be as large as I make it but it's no longer infinite, I'll have to have a hard stop somewhere eventually. But the good news is the game is already performant, I'm getting into the high 100s of fps and I haven't fully finished integrating streaming yet, it's looking really good.

With all this said I'm confident I'll have a new build at the end of the month with new bolds that are pattable, with vr, along with a beefier kobl news vid. I'll also keep you guys better updated too, consistency is my new goal!
