The Future Plans for Kobold Garden

Hello everyone!

As some of you know, Kobold Garden has come a long way from where it originally was. The idea for it stemmed from just being a simple Chao Garden clone. I eventually wanted to add original concepts to set it apart from Chao Garden but as time went on much more was added. I do still want to complete this version of the game as I see it as what a true, fully realized Chao Garden game should be instead of just a minigame connected to the sonic adventure series. But when looking to the future I can see how long it would take to complete it and with how long it's already been I got to thinking...

Hear me out.

What if we go back to Kobold Gardens roots and make it a 1:1 low poly clone of Chao Garden but with new layouts and the original kobold model. This way we can have a fully playable kobold game much sooner. A big factor here is I'm confident I can complete this version extremely quickly. I estimate to be able to finish this in the next year, 2021.

The current open-world version of Kobold Garden can then become a sequel, Kobold Garden 2. With the first game complete and under my belt, trusting in my ability to complete Kobold Garden 2 with it's lofty scope in the longer time frame it would take to complete may be easier to stomach.

Let me know what you guys think of this. If everyone shares in disliking this idea then I'm up for just continuing progress on kobold garden as is. But I've been going over this idea for awhile now and I feel it's the best path forward. In the end we will have two games, what kobold garden was suppose to be originally and what it became.

I should have the first build of this new Kobold Garden ready in November so you guys can try it out and I'll go more in-depth about everything in a kobold news Youtube video. We can then get a better idea of how everyone feels about this and whether we should do it going into next year.

Any kobold game is good, so I'm down for the simpler project. Work with what you can do, ya know.

I love it! I am in no rush to play in any case, but having a smaller, simpler game next year would definitely be fun!

Smaller game sounds great, don't want to work yourself into a corner

I'm up to wait for the full build, but yea it'd be easier if there was some more updates. maybe not the full video ones but just. something more regular than currently.

I have never seen any updates on actual releases since the original one on https://uwusoft.itch.io/ Where are the updates and the downloads for new builds??

Imo go for it. It's better to have a playable product in a reasonable time frame than an unworkable one that becomes vaporware

I absolutely love this idea. Working on a smaller project I'm sure you'll learn some new things to help with the larger scope game
