Painting My Viking Minis!

Hey yall!

I want to tell you about my Viking minis I painted! These are for my Vikings Collection Kickstarter which is live now!

Alright, so first I got them printed! I like to use Anycubic Grey or really any sort of grey resin. I want to try out black so if I miss painting any spots it just looks like a natural shadow haha I print everything on my Saturn S which I just love. Literally no problems at all. I also use a generic flexible build plate.

Here they are painted!! I am so proud of them! And I learned so much. Mainly, I learned that finished is infinitely better than perfect!

My painting process!

Grab 3 to 5 colors I think best fit
Get a base coat on there, not even too worried about "painting within the lines" Also go THIN! Don't glob it on
Get a second base coat (some colors don't need this)
Wash time! I practically dunk the entire mini in wash lol
Highlight time! Prevents the whole mini from just looking dirty after the wash haha
Any final touches/clean up! DONE!

I ran into a small problem and that was staging them for pictures. I like the paint droppers in the background all blurred out. Really lets the minis be the focus. I also liked the picture below with my mug & paintbrushes.

But I'm not sure I want to tediously arrange my paints everytime I want a nice picture! So I started looking at our scraps, specifically our dice box scraps. I thought "Hmm... A little bit of moss & hot glue and these could be magical backdrops"

So off to the store I went to buy a bunch of hot glue and a bag of moss! Bit messy, but already looking good!

All cleaned up! Time to put them to the test!

✨ Here are the final results!! ✨

I think I could blur out the background even more in the future, but I am thrilled! This could work even with some old cereal boxes. I highly recommend it. I am definitely going to make some more backdrops. For the next one I'm thinking painting the box blue/white ombre and then tacking on seashells!
