What's inside a 9V battery?

Interesting to note that I subsequently tested the cells and found that the "positive" enbd was actually negative and the case is positive.

Just a quick thing... I opened a Sony Ultra Super (Cheap Poundland one) that died today after being left on load. It was down to 0v. The cells inside it are the oval types not the AAAA type. It seems the two tyles are just mixed up with no way to know which is which. Just an FYI.

Nice! I seem to recall taking different 9v batteries apart at different times and indeed finding either flat cells or AAAA cells within. "Savoring the moment"

I'm pretty sure that whether PP3s contain AAAAs or rectangular slabs is up to the manufacturer, so you can't reliably say that all alkaline PP3s contain AAAAs: all you can say is that Kodak ones do. IIRC EEVblog had a video on this and showed that a different brand had the slabs.

Back in the 1980 the electricians at work would wrap wire around a 9V and use as a hand warmer when working outside, what a waste. I do remember one of the office guys got the order wrong for the gas igniter Ripon gasfire it used 2 C size cells and a glow plug.... The lad made a mistake and ordered a YEARS supply of batteries to be delivered every MONTH they were everywhere no one wanted them, and the supply would not stop delivery. John

The end difference is probably due to the dong on the positive terminal of a standard cell...? Whereas those have tabs. But... Folding the tab over. Life hack. Or be very, very naughty and gob some solder onto the positive end. A wrap o' tape round the body and you're in business. ...I'm wondering if there's any NiMH 9v's with 6x rechargeable, tabbed AAAA's inside........?

Now there's an idea. "Poundland batteries are filled with DIAMONDS!"
