Not a video (yet). Can you guess what it is?

This is just a picture, so don't click on it yet. The video is about to be uploaded and will be up later.
This device was lots of fun to explore. Some of you will recognise what it is instantly and then deduce the interesting twist associated with a lithium cell and USB connector.
Feel free to try and do a bit of reverse engineering from the picture and then compare it to the final schematic that forms part of the video later.
Well that's 5.20am so I guess I should get to bed then.
Rainbow LED flame lamps?.... Gotta order one of those, for reasons.

You may have to buy a few and choose the nicest. What you get from eBay is not always the one shown in the listing images. Some have a very short flickery loop and some have a decent flame effect that goes through a few patterns.

And there was me thinking "Ha! Nailed it. It's one of those flicker effect lamps". Everyone here also appears to have nailed it too! Nice in the fact that it's portable.

Agreeing with most, a flame light. Possibly the tree topper you showed us?

The heatsink is an interesting mounting feature. It's not actually used as a heatsink.

Strangely enough, you CAN get the flame lamps in a wide variety of colours like the green one I have. Including one in a full rainbow of LEDs.

3d printed by BigClive led Flicker lamp. Ran off a 18650. Possibly with some led hacking dont know until I see it lit up.

It is either a portable lantern or a portable fake flame candle. Both rechargeable through USB. And like everything containing a big cell, it can also serve as a powerbank. Practically every modern phone is a powerbank as well, since there are adaptors to connect devices to the phone which also can be devices requiring some charge.

The mount looks like a beacon base, 6x3 flicker flame, heatsinky thing just as a former.... Themed amber warning beacon for Fanny Flambeaux's forklift truck?

Flicker flame!!
2018-11-27 09:37:28 +0000 UTC
Fairly obvious that its a flickering flame effect, probably for the kryptonite tree topper, but this means it needs to be green, and I'd be surprised if you can buy green versions of these lamps... I can see what looks like the lid of some kind of cylinder which is probably made of clear plastic. I'm guessing you'd probably line that with green theatrical lighting gel? I can also see the round spikey thing that the red and white wires go through, others have said its a heat sink, but if it's producing lots of heat then the battery isn't going to last long, so I think this might just be a cardboard former?

Oh, Big Clive... Have you ever NOT taken something apart??? 😂

It's a flame lamp circuit but it's not in its original housing, I'm guessing you're modifying the unit so that all the leds run all the time to illuminate a giant green phallic kryptonite crystal for your tree topper.

My guess is either it’s a camping lantern with the flickering flame effect, however the heat sink housing and the base plate it’s attached to makes me think it’s possibly a stand alone light for one of those cheapie holiday decorative lamp posts I’ve seen where I work :/

Oh that's annoying. I've just finished converting half a dozen of the previous lamps to run on USB/18650s. Grr.

Green tree topper is my guess, like one other above me.

Emergency flame lamp?
2018-11-27 06:21:12 +0000 UTC
Looking at the red and green pen marks suggests that you might be going to solder wires to drive other LEDs on the tree, making the whole tree on fire..... with the song "Alicia Keys - Girl On Fire" running full blast.
-joke-; as the 18560 is charged beyond its capacity and blows - launches and lands next to the Mars InSight probe.

Flame lamp for atop a certain kryptonite tree?
2018-11-27 05:52:15 +0000 UTC
I am going to guess (as many of the others have) its a flickering flame LED module. The lithium ion battery makes it feel like it’s either going to be put on the end of a stick and be some sort of torch, or (given the time-period) some sort of holiday display... 😉

The flame lamp theory seems valid that everyone else keeps going on about. If not though I would say it is some type of backlight for something.

My thoughts too - a battery powered flame light. I want one! On a smaller scale, these would be great for a Christmas tree (or even Christmas lights).
