Wonderfully terrible solar light.

This light has so many issues that it's possibly a fire liability.  It has no charge control for the lithium cell at all.

There are also some very odd but interesting design flaws that could have been fixed with a simple resistor.

Wonderfully terrible solar light.

Electronics has changed a lot. The combination of diminishing eyesight resolution and equally diminishing component sizes is just something we have to embrace. On a plus note, they seem to handle higher temperatures for longer while we ram the little things into place.

I learned from your videos that there were YX8018 chips and I found out that there where also 5252F's. Now I'm building garden lights from plastic pudding containers, Ikea Ladda rechareable batteries and chinese battery holders. Life is good! I studied electronics in the late seventies, build amplifiers with tubes and the old 2N3055's, dit some things with short wave transmitters, programmed a bit in assembles and then switched to study mathematics and physics. Became a teacher and early retired an few years ago. Now I've taken up electronics again as a hobby. My, my, there has been some changes! But all goes well. Studying is still my hobby. The only down side is the fact that all of the components are so silly small, nowadays. God bless spectacles and magnifiing glasses. :) Love your video's. Very inspiring stuff!

Oh, how I just love your videos Clive. Another case of bad engineering! ...That´s why we have to take everything apart, before plugging it in... Especially if it´s made of Chineesium... :)

Wonderfully flawed, but in a way that only our Clive could properly illustrate and that we can all love and pity. :D

So say we all!

I wondered why my one wouldn't light when it got dark . Wasn't aware of the issue that you had to cover the solar panel when setting it up. I ended up wiring it to a low voltage dc 3.7v because i thought the issue was the battery . All great fun when i left it switched on for more than 10 minutes . Crispy capers lol

This is what we like. Dangerous stuff! 👍🏻🙂
