Listening during my Sat morning housework ... nice. On Pico Scope ... I too was pleased to find them still active and offering good value stuff. They compare well against analogue data acquisition modules if you're knocking up some test gear. However for a recent job I looked at "traditional" DSOs and was again amazed at pricing. £250 gets you a dual channel DSO with a fair bit of memory and intelligence, and a SCPI backend. No isolated inputs at that price, but mains rated.

I tend to aim for around 350C, but may have to nudge it higher in the winter. It's not usually that critical. The old thermally balanced irons used to float at a random temperature well above 350C

Big Clive

It depends on the circuitry inside them. It might be worth experimenting with a series capacitor (with discharge resistor) on one.

I just replaced some F8T5 lamps with LED direct replacement lamps. Choke ballast, removed the starters. The light is very bright, and bub are quite warm. Any easy way to dim them down a bit? Or just replace the whole fixture?

sounds a bit like a changeover relay for a chinese diesel heater. and the reason I am here to see if Clive has anything in his archives that could help. David Mcluckie has just shown a chinese changeover relay to attach inline to the common as muck Webasto cloned chinese diesel heaters (and they are good when installed correctly) but on power outage the switchover is supposed to be in the milisecond range but its closer to a full second or so and the controller then craps out and goes into shutdown mode (which is what I want to save destroying the controller) but others recon a couple of diodes and a relay can do the same but with no changeover delay. here is a link to Davids vid about the chinese 10A changeover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CJFMBwNSQE Mayb Clive could invest in one for the garage as they will run sweat as a nut on kero.

have you ever thought of Low voltage UPS circuitry? I have 4 APC UPS units in my house that standard units charge 2 x 12v batteries in series, for an inverter to take up to 230v for then the device PSU's to take back down to 12v!!! I would love to Find/Build a simple UPS circuit that can handle 5-10amps at 12v constant flow also charge/maintain a good sized battery for it to then take over on a power failure. what do you think on this subject? I love the idea if the power goes out I can still carry on as normal

Possible topic/question - Soldering Iron Temperature choice... Do you have a go-to temp or any suggestions on the max temp for things (like sensitive components vs resistors...) also temp for soldering Capacitors as I've read it's important not to fry the electrolytics....

Whippet Gas

Yes it is. For some reason the Mitsubishi ones seem to be the most cloned on eBay.

I'm a patreon because I want to see the channel succeed. I don't understand why anyone would deny you income because they fear distraction for a few seconds. I cheer every time I see another $10 or $20 to clive. If we get the quiet stream, let Saturday pay for it. The worst that can happen is a bigger worse cheap teardown. That's why I'm here.

Mitsibushi PLC chinese clone ?

That's worth doing. Or better still, all the backroom inventors whose work he exploited.

Jager toast suggestion -> Thomas Edison His birthday is February 11, 1847. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Edison

For maximum repeatability and versatility I'd suggest using a bench power supply with adjustable voltage and current. Preferably bought from a prominent component distributor in your country.

Big Clive

Clive, i'm thinking of doing some electroplating, what would be a suitable hacked power supply? Would a 300W 20A buck converter be suitable with a 12v LED power supply?

Mike Hanley

Although it's only driving the relay coils, so shouldn't really fail.

Big Clive

I've already turned superchat off and may also disable the super sticker option, which I'll rebrand as beer tokens on the public streams.

Big Clive

I'll be there. Please no super chat this time. It's like people flashing their money in the pub (when it was possible to go at least)

Zeedijk Mike

The driver chip is socketed. Nice touch.

MrTridac

Why not both at the same time, one per eye/ear

GL_1_Code1_1A

Not as formal as that. I think it was mainly aimed at the gaming channels as a way to interact or "send a drink". But it's useful for the technical channels too - although I've just disabled it and left the super-sticker on at this point in time. When discussing technical stuff it can be very distracting.

Big Clive

In the UK it should be Thursday at 21.05 if I've not screwed up.

Big Clive

Arrrgh - going to miss the beginning again. One of my favorite musicians does a livestream every second Thursday......same as BC.

Is Superchat = Cash For Questions?

Andrew Donaldson

I'll be there. 🥳

Peter Luijer

Weds at 9 Clive? We really appreciate your company during the pandemic, it means a lot to us thanks buddy 😎👍

Lee Goodair

I can't hear it at from here! He's really got it tuned well.

Michael Thompson

Sounds great
