Air filter evolution - now HEPA (Not a video yet)

I've just upgraded my simple air filter to use a common HEPA filter for higher air throughput.

Furnace style filters are much harder to get here due to our hot water heating systems.  This ring filter seems to be used by a few brands.   I wonder what the most common filter like this is on eBay.

Advantages of this unit.  Common cheap filter that the fan literally plugs into.  Will just run when powered with no fancy controls.   Can be used on lower voltage or with series diodes/resistors to reduce noise.

At creating around 81% of harmful air quality, Sneezes come top, Body Odour next at 20%, followed by Farts at a mere 15%. Say ventilation firm Nuaire, who say that smelly factors don't cause bad indoor air quality, but that when you introduce a sneeze into the mix, then everyone in a room can be affected.

I looked at those, but the square shape wasn't so easy to print a frame for on a delta printer which has a circular print area.

I've made this script scalable and will release it shortly. It can also work with some vacuum bags.

What about something like a cabin air filter for cars? Don't know if the throughput is great, but they're somewhat easy to get ahold of

You're not kidding... their 140mm industrial one is a beast. Almost 160CFM at 3000 RPM 0_0, and sells for $30 on Newegg. https://noctua.at/en/nf-a14-industrialppc-3000-pwm/specification

It doesn't specifically state the smallest particulate size.

This seems like an easy enough solution that you could have them in a few rooms of a house. This is a definite upgrade from your original concept a few months back.

I was just thinking about doing something like this with a Shop Vac filter!

As someone who works in the computer/server/network device space(I am a senior technician in a datacenter and have my own enthusiast PC), Arctic isn't bad, but if you want good PC style fans with good CFM, go with Noctua. Their fans tend to be great quality and suited for non-standard applications and, depending on the model you get, very quiet. Plus the non industrial grade fans are pretty reasonably priced

What level of HEPA is the filter? (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HEPA#Specifications )

Wow this is really interesting advice about soldering fumes. How well does it filter the fumes? What level of HEPA is the filter you use? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HEPA#Specifications

Great evolution of the project

Yeah that type is nice, the 120mm fan just fits right on. Its not ideal but you can also use it in reverse connected to a hose to pull fumes when soldering. Levoit core 300 is what we have here, used to be $25 now price is up to $35. There is also the mi air HEPA, similar style, taller in height. But its direct from China from resellers, so I didn't risk it.

Looks good Clive, be nice when you turn it into a video, smart thinking.
