eBay night light 2024 revisit

Now with even less components.   Kinda interesting how the design has evolved.  The cover comes off far too easily - if you have one in a kids room it might be worth adding a dab of suitable glue.

The dusk sensor will probably increase LED lifespan, but is mostly a gimmick.

I have a couple of nightlights with a similar physical design (well, they're round instead of leaf shaped), with the light sensor on a stalk inside a thick cylindrical protrusion from the lid to stop it reacting to its own light. But it uses a phototransistor instead of an LDR - the listing I bought from was loud about how it was RoHS compliant - I guess cadmium sulfide LDRs are banned by the European RoHS act in addition to lead solder? I don't know if that was from the start of the RoHS, or whether it's been added in since. The thing I don't like about them is that while it's not a binary on/off - it's supposed to adjust with light level - it does the opposite of what it should. At dusk, it turns on dimly, and as it gets darker, the nightlight gets brighter. I've been playing with the design (well, when I get back to it...) trying to see if I can make it do the opposite with just the one phototransistor while still fitting onto the same board...

Could a toilet night light be adapted to do the same function as this?
