Delightfully trashy granny-zapper
Added 2024-04-05 05:07:48 +0000 UTCGiven that this style of circuitry used to be widely used in hideous coiled-wire sculpture lights favoured by elderly ladies, I do wonder how many got zapped by them before they switched to using low voltage light strings.
I really enjoyed reverse engineering this one. It's pleasingly functional for such a trashy design.
One update (more in the description on YouTube) the unit does NOT use phase angle control. It just pulse width modulates the LEDs on the unsmoothed DC.

2024-04-06 03:20:09 +0000 UTCi'm curious about the "4148" silkscreen next to one of the resistors. that would seem to suggest a diode .. but while other components have symbols printed as well as values that one does not?
