Declined Payments
Added 2015-05-02 00:08:05 +0000 UTCOver the last few months, I have noticed a few patrons have continuously had their payments declined. Patreon declines payments for several reasons, like having false information that can't be verified, etc. At first, this didn't really bother me. But recently, I have been made aware of the potential for chargebacks. Basically, lets say that a patron pledges $10 a month, and get's declined for 4 months due to faulty info. As soon as they fix the info, they get a huge buildup of charges, all at once. In this case, it'd be $40 in one month. That's a problem for me, if they make a complaint to their bank, and get the money returned, plus chargeback fees. In fact, it could ruin me, financially, which isn't fair. Especially if the reason the patron isn't fixing the issue is because they are trying to get a few free sketches each month. I know that there are quite a few people out there that like to "work the system" to get access to otherwise exclusive content. However, that "system" being worked over is me, a real person, who works hard to create new content in hopes of rewarding the very honorable people who DO support me. For those of you who have continued to support me, I thank you very much. Because of you, I will be able to adjust my work schedule so that I can work more on personal projects. That means more content, here, for you! If you are one of the people who is continuously getting your pledge declined, please either fix it, or unsubscribe/unpledge. If I notice it isn't fixed by the time everyone else's payments have been processed, I will have to delete you from the page, and that sucks. It's not fair to me, and it's not fair to the others who do pledge. Let's be cool, let's be honest, and let's be clear to eachother. :)

This post was from back in 2015, and I was specifically talking about pledge dodgers, which was a big problem for me at the time. Whatever you are dealing with is unrelated to this post, but I am sorry to hear you are having trouble! I hope you can get it resolved without too much trouble.

2018-09-02 07:03:38 +0000 UTCThey don't even do it for false info. They stopped accepting my card just this month and I provide my correct info but because I have paypal also linked they won't help with the issue. So it isn't always about false info they just have a buggy system.

2018-09-02 06:48:10 +0000 UTCI wasn't too bothered by it, until I learned about the potential for chargebacks. It seems to be all cleared up, now!

2015-05-06 02:19:59 +0000 UTCOh man, I'm sorry to hear there are folks out there abusing the system. I never understood that mentality, especially when it applies to hard working artists of any medium. I think your solution is the best one in this case.

2015-05-02 19:19:04 +0000 UTCThank you! It wasn't my intention to put anyone on the spot, I just wanted to explain my reasoning, if I had to delete people. It's not what I want to do, by any means. But I am also wary of chargebacks, so better safe than sorry!

2015-05-02 19:17:19 +0000 UTCIt did show up that I declined it, I just pressed retry and seems all good now. If not I will switch from credit card to pypal

2015-05-02 08:33:45 +0000 UTCOh wow! Thanks so much, man! That made my day! I think you are right. I understand if it's a mistake, that happens. But if it happens more than once, things start to smell fishy. Deleting such members just seems like the best way to respond. It might sound cheesy, but I really don't get offended by it, I am only worried about the financial backlash that can occur. That's a real issue. But as for my motivation, It's too hard to look past the happiness that all of my loyal backers give me, for their continued support! A few dishonest folk aren't going to get me down. :)

2015-05-02 04:53:33 +0000 UTCIt happens all the time. I support quite a few people on here and they all have made posts about this happening. I advise you just drop these people, even though it really bites :( Almost everyone else that I follow on here winds up regretting not doing it sooner. I really don't want you to join that list. Gunna up my pledge a little, hang in there man. Are and always have been my favorite.

2015-05-02 04:45:29 +0000 UTCYes indeed. I wouldn't even care, if it wasn't for the potential harm it could do me.

2015-05-02 02:54:25 +0000 UTCIt bites big time, people will always find a way to manipulate the system to get what they want instead of doing it the legit way. :P Thanks for addressing the problem.
2015-05-02 01:12:06 +0000 UTCI am not too sure about how serious of a threat it is. Seems like it'd be pretty rare, but if it's even a possibility, I would rather be safe than sorry. It's no problem! The site is still pretty new, so it's important that everyone is aware of the potential set backs. :)

2015-05-02 01:00:44 +0000 UTCI didn't even know people could do that. Patreon should seriously fix that so that their hardworking contributors don't get screwed over! That's so terrible. I'm glad you discovered this /before/ it became a problem! And I'm glad that I know about it for future reference. Thanks for addressing this to more than just your pledges.
