The Clone Wars: Hunted [066-067/134] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

So... I didn't realize that we are at the end of Season 3 (you'll see when I realize it in the video LOL). I ALSO didn't realize that we are OFFICIALLY HALFWAY THROUGH THE SHOW. 🥳 Since the last half of this show has multiple four-episode arc's, I think I will get through this back half much quicker than I watched the first half. I'm a little sad that we are already halfway, but I am also so excited to get to these later seasons!

Today, we fire up the arc called Hunted in The Clone Wars. This arc consists of the following episodes:

Let me know your thoughts on this arc in the comments below. [Direct link here.]

trandoshans gives Major predator franchise vibes and also funny: starring as Himself – Chewbacca 🙂

Veli-Jussi Hirvonen

Totally!

The Anakin and Ahsoka interaction at the end really shows how Ahsoka is growing up and shows more of who she becomes as an adult.

I hope you had a great vacation Justin! Did you go anywhere fun and what did you get up to? I love that some of the main voice actors also voice the monkey droids. 😅

kaiielle

Love this arc, I was on vacation so I am late to the viewing and comments so a lot about Wookiees, Tarfful, and the Scorekeeper has been said already. BUT!!! Fun fact about the Command Droids (you called them monkey droids I believe) , most if not all of them have different voices because they are kinda like cute little cameo characters for most of the cast. Like Matt Lanter probably voices one somewhere but I don’t know which one (I’m 99% the main cast all get one). I LOVE Trandosians, they are so COOL! Like with all the Jurassic Park Velociraptor inspired behaviors and all. Just a really cool species. Also Bossk, a bounty hunter from the Empire Strikes Back and the Lizard guy with Aura Sing and Boba in an earlier Arc is a Trandosian too. Fun fact, trandosians can re grow limbs like some real world lizards 🦎. And the main bad guy hear calls Ahsoka a TOGRUTA, that is her Species not a insult like the 4-6 times they said “Jedi Welp”. Love seeing Master PLO as always.

Justin

Cool!

Also, I have noticed something that I didn't notice before. The shotgun some of the thrandoshans are using seems to work very similarily to the shotgun in the Jedi Knight games, which are also one of the greatest Star Wars games ever done. They are not RPG, but they still have quite interesting stories.

Thanks for your comments Alex. I'm committed to the official viewing order, but look forward to your breakdown as always.

Hey, Kaiielle! One of those pesky discrepancies is about to come up. The fourth episode of Season 4, "Shadow Warrior", absolutely comes BEFORE the Mon Cala Trilogy. It's quite obvious an error, too, because it just makes no sense coming afterwards due to the internal politics. I recommend you pair it with the Trilogy by seeing it first rather than seeing it after. It's a small change. If not, no problem. View it in whatever way you prefer. I'll just provide the explanation as to why the official order is incorrect in my breakdown.

Hey, Kaiielle! PADAWAN LOST: "The Most Dangerous Game", Richard Connell's short story from 1924, has inspired countless man-hunting-man movies and here is adapted to Star Wars! This duology was specifically designed as a developmental milestone for both Ahsoka and Anakin to demonstrate self-reliance and detachment, respectively. Guess who made the better showing? We're back on FELUCIA, the planet where Anakin, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka trained the farmers to fight off Hondo Ohnaka and the planet where Twi'lek Master Aayla Secura will die during Order 66. Kel Dor Master Plo Koon's unit is called the 'Wolfpack' in honor of their clone Commander WOLFFE with the dead eye who makes a return appearance here after last being seen rescuing Anakin and Mace Windu from a downed cruiser on Vanqor during "R2 Come Home" (Season 2, Episode 21). Trandoshans are a reptilian species from Trandosha who worship the Goddess they call THE SCOREKEEPER. They earn points per kill with prey being accorded a certain value relative to the level of difficulty of besting it. Existence for Trandoshans is basically a big game hunt. They are the traditional enemy of the Wookiees of Kashyyyk The game preserve from this duology is on Trandosha's moon, Wasskah. BOSSK, the reptilian bounty hunter hired by Vader to locate the 'Millennium Falcon' in "Empire", is the saga's most well-known Trandoshan. Brought into the series during the Boba Fett Trilogy of Season 2, it's been shown he has known Fett most of his life. Seen in the aerial hunting lodge are trophies that include a Wampa pelt draped over the throne, numerous Wookiee pelts, a reek head, a rancor head, a stuffed gundark, and busts of a Kaleesh, a Gran, an Ithorian and a Gungan. The introduction of CONVORS, the adorable little birds perched outside the younglings' hideaway. KALIFA was human, O-MER is Cerean like Ki-Adi-Mundi and JINX is a Twi'lek. WOOKIEE HUNT: Some of the Trandoshans in Garnac's guild were named after famous reptilian creatures or dragons even if they weren't identified by dialogue. Gilas was named after ANGILAS, a Godzilla opponent. Goron was named after the GORN, a reptilian humanoid species from "Star Trek". Lagon was named after ANCALAGON THE BLACK from Tolkien's "The Silmarillion". Smug was named after SMAUG from Tolkien's "The Hobbit". Ramy was named after RAMOTH from McCaffrey's "Dragonriders of Pern". To my mind, the writers didn't go far enough! I feel every Trandoshan in the guild should have been dubbed after a famous counterpart because they left some great names on the table like FAFNIR, TIAMAT, VERMITHRAX, GHIDORAH, SLEESTAK, FALKOR, MAHARS, DRACO, JERIBA, GRIG, G'KAR, YEVAUD and VILLENTRETENMERTH! The Trandoshan hunting lodge yields a glimpse of two other notable trophies while Ahsoka grapples with Garnac: a Neo-Crusader Mandalorian helmet from the Old Republic era of 4,000 years earlier and a Crystal Skull from "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" as a Lucasfilm Easter Egg! The introduction of CHEWBACCA into the saga! He's a spry 179 years old here! The introduction of GENERAL TARRFUL, the Wookiee war-chief, into the saga. He helps Yoda escape Kashyyyk during Order 66 and appears again in the "Fallen Order" video game. The surprise return of honorable Zabrak bounty huntress SUGI and her Ssori partner SERIPAS last seen in "Sphere of Influence" (Season 3, Episode 4) and "Bounty Hunters" (Season 2, Episode 17), respectively. The mutually respectful conversation between Ahsoka and Anakin on Coruscant pleases an eavesdropping Yoda but he fails to register Anakin's desperate near-embrace of his Padawan. Ahsoka is maturing but Anakin is getting in deep! In the credits, Chewbacca is listed as being voiced by himself but the late PETER MAYHEW is given special acknowledgement for his contribution to the beloved Wookiee.

Ahh cool, thank you!

kaiielle

Stoked I remembered him!

The Trandoshans and Wookies are natural enemies. Trandoshans are from Trandosha as you guessed, which is in the same system as Kashyyk where the wookies are from. One of the reasons Chewie was able to contact the wookies and they could get there so fast, as well as wanting to get revenge on some Trandoshans. The Trandoshans worship their goddess The Scorekeeper, and their culture is based around hunting with The Scorekeeper granting points based on their prey, the bigger/tougher the prey, the more points. This is explained a good bit in the Star Wars MMO The Old Republic which you would probably enjoy after playing the KOTOR games.

You never know who is going to show up in these animated shows. Got Chewie and our bounty hunter friends this time, always a pleasure. Tarful was there in this episode as well as Episode 3, good recall. He has greyer fur and shoulder pads, he's the leader of the wookies. Anakin still has issues trusting Ahsoka even after she proves herself time and time again. He does start to trust her, but he feels like he can always help and make things better so once they're disconnected he can't intervene and that bothers him. The Yoda smile at the end is satisfying. He insisted Ahsoka should be Anakin's padawan to help him grow and mature, and now it's happening
