one of my favorite episodes of the season

In my experience, most people who are still unsure about this show by this point tend to be turned around if they make it to this episode. Such an unexpectedly great episode. I say unexpectedly not because this show isn't very capable of it, but because this is more or less the first time they've done it lol

Yeah, this is a great episode, with some really solid acting by Elizabeth Henstridge (Jemma Simmons)! Bigger MCU connections in this ep: Obviously, the Chitauri helmet that we've seen them wear in The Avengers when they were invading New York. Also, we see Agent Felix Blake played by Titus Welliver. He appeared earlier in the MCU in the One-Shot Item 47, which released as a DVD extra on the The Avengers (2012) home release. In fact, it was this One-Shot that convinced Disney CEO Bob Iger to greenlight the production of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., so this was a nice full-circle moment.

Its great seeing the acting ranges of the young actors/actress grow even early on you can see it with Jemma in these scenes. Also I was thinking you should make a running tally of how many MCU references the show has other than the obvious seasons just to prove the show should be canon I still can't believe they made it non-canon

And this is the episode that made me want to watch the whole show. The formulaic delivery is still there, a one-off "something weird happened so we investigate" parameter, and yet... Yet we see team being team. We see strengths that can't be used until they are. We see how much each one of these characters cares about each other. I would rather not bring up Joss Whedon because of things, but for better or worse this is a Joss Whedon show. This is Firefly on one single planet. This is Buffy with government badges. This is an ensemble cast doing ensemble things. And right here, this is where I fell in love.

The Simmons episode. Yes this episode is what gets many people invested into the show if they weren't already. It highlights the relationship between the two scientists who until this episode were more background comic relief but now we see hold a strong emotional bond that tugs at the heartstrings. Fitz since the first episode avoided being near any bodies or danger but near the end of this ep not only entered a quarantine area but also nearly jumped out of a plane save Simmons. True friendship. Simmons definitely showed her bravery by sacrificing herself for her team.

Many people agree with your sentiment. This one is special. It "feels" different. It is, but then again you are only six episodes into the show. Who knows what the future may bring.
