The Acolyte: Destiny [1x03] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Hi everyone! PHEWWWW what a great episode! In the intro I talked about my favourite theory that I had heard so far in the fandom, so I would recommend watching it. I'm so excited for where this is going. [Direct link here.]

Let's talk about it!

The Acolyte: Destiny [1x03] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Ahh them compared to their moms is a fun observation! Yes, we are definitely getting an unreliable narrator situation and I really do love stories with that so very excited for more! Tomorrow night can't come soon enough.

Hm. For some odd reason I couldn’t find this reaction last week… Anyways. I liked this episode. Personally I think both young actors did a really great job. Even though we haven’t seen all that much of adult Mae, she seems more one dimensional as a character and I felt that was reflected in young Mae. Some observations I didn’t see in the other comments, that I found interesting. The duality of the twins is reflected in their mothers (at least in this POV). Koril is hard, strict and seeks to violence against the Jedi. Anisaya is caring, understanding and seeks non-violent solutions. And she wants Osha to follow her heart. Unless Mae went all around the fortress starting fires, there is no way it would spread as much as it did. Especially the fires at the bottom of the wall. The dead witches showed no signs of burns and there wasn’t enough debris on the ground to have them all die from falling debris. They must have died from other causes. This story is the POV of an 8 year old. It will be interesting to see how much of an “unreliable narrator” factor has been written into this and how other POVs may be very different. Final thought. For Jedi, who are supposed to let go of attachment and emotions… Sol is such an emotional character. Love him.

We are still missing a lot of the truth in this mystery at the moment! Sorry it's not working for you but that's okay!

kaiielle

Very true! I'm assuming we'll get some more perspectives in the episode(s) to come.

Big same!!

The Force has been referred to by a lot of different names depending on the group - the Thread is just what these women call it. All its names are on the Wiki. As for Mae killing everyone, I realized after watching that we only saw one POV and we still have info missing in this story about what really went down. So pretty excited for next week! It's okay it's not your cup of tea though.

kaiielle

Ahh good catch!

Great reaction as always but hated this one. Not bad as Christmas special but close😂. Cmon a thread is the force, Mae killed everyone really. Anakin story been done. The Jedi taking 8 yr old kids. Anakin was the only one that old. That Mae must be stronger than Darth Vader just saying

Witches!!! Man, I love me some Star Wars witches. So rad. 🤘🏼

Hmm...how unfortunate. I was really hoping this show would take a turn for the better after the first two episode, but this really is a low point for the SW television series. The acting is still somewhat good, but the writing is just boring and has way too many holes, and decisions that just make so little sense. I'm going to give it one more episode but if things don't improve a lot that'll be it for me on this one.

I'm glad we got to see Osha's backstory from her POV. I hadn't though about it specifically being her POV until the part Mae burned the book. I was glad that they are showing parts of the story to show who may be telling the truth and who lying, from their stated points of view. I thought, at the beginning of this ep, before we saw any Jedi that this may be a story where the Jedi are the bad guys. This could show the nuance between parties who believe different things, but both/all parties think they are doing the right thing. But, I feel someone made a mistake which it's unclear where that mistake actually happened and by whom. We now have seemingly eliminated Osha as the direct cause for the mistake. There are still many POVs that we haven't seen yet. The witches distrust the Jedi and vice versa. Anyone on either side could've done something, thinking it was right, that ended in death of the witches. We know the Jedi thought they were doing the right thing, according to Torbin, but he was guilty enough about that for over a decade enough to kill himself. We don't know what Mae saw in order for her to directly blame the Jedi because she said to Indara that the Jedi DO attack unarmed people. I feel it is possible that it could have been caused by someone we're not focused on (like the birth mother perhaps) and the other parties are blaming each other when they're missing something that keeps them from seeing the truth of the matter.

I have a few observations : 1. At the end of the lesson with the girls, there is a weird sound that a witch go check and the generator makes a weird electrical buzz just after. That generator exploded later. Someone did something to it, and it is not the Jedi they were not there yet. 2. Yes Mae burned her sister's book in frustration, but the door caught fire way too quick and it would not explode the whole place like that from just a book burning. So someone is hidden there and manipulating the situation. There is a lot more to learn going forward, we only saw a limited POV.

Fixing now!

the episode 3 page is blank on your website for some reason, no youtube embed. I can see episode 2 fine.

I mulled over this episode and the story so far while getting ready to sleep and I believe that I totally misunderstood things at the end. I didn't once think about what Torbin said to Mae last episode, which is a really big deal. And we weren't shown wtf happened to the witches. I think I'm putting too much faith into only one POV. And maybe too much in the Jedi. 😂 Anything else I missed?
