I am pretty sure it has never been stated in the films or shows, but it is similar to how some say that Loki was corrupted by the Mind stone in his scepter during the first Avengers movie. We did see in that movie how the scepter influenced the heroes when they were all arguing, and we definitely see how Lokis physical appearance had been altered since the first Thor movie. I know one of the complaints about this movie is that Wanda’s turn to darkness felt out of place from her arc in WandaVision. I can see how not having prior knowledge outside of WandaVision could make the debut/reveal of the Darkhold in that show and the MCU easy to shrug off, thus making it’s impact in this movie easy to overlook. I’m just not sure if that is a fault in the writing or the fandom 😆 Even for the casual, only seen the highlight movies of phases 1/2/3 type of fan, we know that sometimes a simple “MacGuffin” turns out to be super duper important, ie: Loki’s scepter. So, when we see Wanda thumbing thru this magical and potentially evil spell book of the damned…the writers probably thought, the fans, they know to keep an eye out right? I mean we put the Darkhold in a post credit scene just like Thor’s hammer, the tessaract, the aether, oh, and Loki’s scepter. Just for good measure we could add a creepy eye color change when the user is affected by the Darkhold? No, wait we did creepy eyes with the scepter and the aether, how about black finger tips? Screw it, black finger tips and a creepy 3rd eye thing, just in case 😁 However, Marvel does love a new shiny object to focus on, it can be hard sometimes to know what to remember depending on what corner of the Marvel Multiverse you’re currently in 🤪🤦‍♀️😆

Since you mentioned it 😁 I wanted to put the idea out there for way, way, down the line in your Marvel watching journey. That a YouTube live or Discord re-watch of the “Fantastic Four” movies from 05’ & 07’ would be fun.

This was a wonderful revisit with you. I’ll admit that this one has grown on me. I have never been a big fan of this particular vein of Sam Rami’s style. It’s weird, that I don’t mind the camp & corn in the Tobey era Spider-Man films or in the Hercules & Xena shows, but I’ve never really enjoyed Rami’s use of it in his horror films. I feel similarly about this movie, I don’t mind the typical superhero cheese, but when it is injected into the horror scenes, it takes me out of the 616 and reminds me that I am watching a Sam Rami movie, rather than the next exciting chapter of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. It’s a fine line and while I still am not a fan of Rami’s horror movies, his style does seem less abrasive upon rewatching this particular film. I saw this movie opening weekend on Mother’s Day, so it was a memorable experience. I do love my Marvel in May tradition. *Edit: the releasing of Dr.S:M.O.M. on Mother’s Day weekend and having the antagonist/villain be a Mother looking for her children and a second protagonist looking for her Mothers, was movie marketing at its finest. 👏👏👏 Plus, this movie had a lot of excitement around it and I was guilty of letting my mind run wild with multiverse possibilities. It didn’t help that for some reason, someone at Marvel thought it would be a good idea to spoil Professor X in one of the trailers. My X-Men loving heart skipped a beat, and I immediately thought of all the possible stories they could pull from involving those characters. To say that I allowed my expectations to cloud my initial impression of this film would be an understatement. I still wouldn’t rank this in my top ten, but this movie has certainly gotten better with time, imo anyway. Your reaction to this has made me even more excited for your continued journey into the Marvel Multiverse!!!

This is an opinion most wont like but I think this movie is the best of phase 4 that youve seen so far, even better than Spider man, yes I loved the spider-man movie but mostly for the nostalgia of mainly the Tobey spiderman characters more than any thing. I loved finally seeing the power of both magic users in this movie could you imagine if we had the Scarlet witch for Thanos lol he would been screwed. I guess in general I just enjoyed most everything from the fighting to the cameos to the hints of things I cant mention cause you havent scene some things yet. I just think i was over all better than everything else in phase 4. And the whole thing with the pizza ball vendor is the fact Sam Raimi was the director and he always puts Bruce Campbell in a goofy role for shits and giggles. Ohh and Blackbolt and other characters are in a 1 season series called inhumans on disney it didnt do very well

🤣🤣

I enjoyed this movie, you know for being the worlds smartest man Reed Richards made some pretty dumb decisions lol

The guy who played the street vendor was Bruce Campbell most known for being the lead in The Evil Dead films .

The darkhold is a very powerful book that is not to be messed with. Many people think it was just Wanda this movie but she opened the book to find out more about herself at the end of wandavision but it's corrupting influence and showing her how to get them back made her desire to have her sons so strong. Once she got what she wanted (seeing her sons) the books influence went away and she could feel all the guilt about the pain she caused.

Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it.

Fantastic reaction as usual. :)

Blkm44

Great write-up of her journey! Totally agree, she's def one of my faves in the Marvel world.

kaiielle

The horror vibes were WILD. I will always remember that "Samara from The Ring"-like moment with Wanda.

kaiielle

I hope so too!

I loved this movie, and was so happy with the character arc we got to see Wanda go through: from being a kid with a happy family, to losing them all to a Stark bomb, being experimented on by Hydra, being manipulated by Ultron, rejecting vengeance and instead opting to join a found family in the Avengers, taking down bad guys, being blamed for a tragedy, having half of her new family turn their backs on her, building a relationship with a loving partner, having to end that partner's life herself for the greater good and failing anyway, building a family out of grief, losing that family as well, then going on a rampage 'cause what WTF universe, then ultimately sacrificing both what she wanted and herself when she realized she couldn't take that same family away from someone else. This is why I can't help but laugh when actors come out against "the Marvel machine" because it's "too corporate" and doesn't let them flex their acting muscle. Almost every single named MCU character has an arc just as deep and complex as Wanda's, even without diving into comics for material.

Also there was an 8 episode series called the Inhumans that premiered in 2017 that featured Black Bolt and the same actor portrayed him in Doctor Strange 2. The series was a way, at the time, to introduce new characters with abilities but it didn't take and then the Fox-Disney deal started and Kevin Feige figured he wait for Mutants (Xmen) to come back to the MCU. That's also what the Eternals were supposed to be. A team of superheroes with powers, like the Inhumans and the Xmen. Eternals was in development before the fox deal started but was finished after the deal went through. Supposedly Kevin Feige started on it as a backup plan in case the deal went south and he didn't get the xmen back.

Black Bolt, "Keeper of the Terrigen Mist. The Inhuman King." You are watching AOS and Skye just went through Terrigenesis when the Terrigen crystals broke into the Terrigen mist. In one of the quarantine episodes, either Fitz or Simmons said something along the lines about her blood or DNA no longer being human, it was "inhuman".

Carl Johnson

Oops, my bad on the flag! As for comparing 123 vs multiverse, I agree. Definitely still loving the first saga more than this one so far.

kaiielle

Woohoo!!! Back on the MCU train! It seems like I’ve been waiting in the rain for this forever. 😉🤣

Hm yeah, I strongly dislike this campy/silly style (both in the cinematography and writing). Can't fault them for swinging for the fences and trying something different, though. As the comments above mine highlight, there are plenty of people for whom it's exactly their cup of tea! I'm still on the fence about the whole Multiverse concept. It's a lot of fun to see different variants. But I also feel a lot less invested. Phases 1/2/3 felt "important" because everything that happened had consequences and came back later. Now with the Multiverse, it feels a lot more throwaway. The flag on America Chavez' jacket is the Puerto Rican flag, not the USA flag. The portals being star-shaped is a bit on the nose, I agree. 😅 We met Mordo (the guy whom you temporarily confused for "He Who Remains" from Loki) in the first Doctor Strange movie. I love Chiwetel Ejiofor, but the character wasn't all that memorable so I don't think anyone will fault you for not having him top of mind.

Huuuuuge Sam Raimi fan, loved this movie. It gets a lot of hate, whatever. For me, it just works. The magical fight scenes are far more interesting, and the off-kilter hyper-weird horror vibe gives the movie a unique sensibility that--at least for me--uplifts the story and sets it apart. Writing this before I watch your reaction, so I'm very curious to see how you feel about it. Will be watching this when I get home from work.

Steve Mercier

People hate on this movie but man I loved it. It was everything I wanted. Obvs it couldn't get House of M dark so I didn't go in expecting that and I think most comic fans did. Wanda's an absolute weapon and I hope we see her again.
