More flashbacks! We love to see it. This season feels very different to the first and I'm very much here for it! Definitely enjoying things and can't believe we're already almost halfway through the season already. [Direct link here.]

Please enjoy and I'm looking forward to your comments!

"Even the sex scene didn't feel like "just sex" but rather an exploration of souls. Moves and counter-moves." - YES "Kaiielle, would you allow someone you're being casual with to cut food on your stomach?" - Definitely not. That sort of thing, and anything else in that realm of sensual play, is reserved for a long-time partner, for sure! Yes, Matt definitely has deep conflict here. Just adding even more to the complexity!

Your question made me LOL. Yeah I don't care about her nearly as much as maybe I should, but you're right, perhaps we're not supposed to.

kaiielle

Elektra caring about Daredevil over Matt - totally makes sense. Didn't quite see it that way. I did, of course, see Karen only caring about Matt, but only because she doesn't know about Daredevil yet. 😉

I anticipate more depth will come to Foggy in the season and into next. I hope so anyway! I can definitely see that about Karen and Elektra - appreciate your thoughts on those two.

kaiielle

She does play Elektra very well!

Elektra seems to be to Daredevil what Talia al Ghul is to Batman. Opposite ends of the spectrum but they still have a toxic attraction to one another. Joke's on Foggy, crazy IS normal. Even setting aside the Daredevil persona, Punisher, and Elektra, they're lawyers in Hell's Kitchen. Crazy will be a big part of their days and careers no matter what. I love the flashback at the gym. Even though Matt and Elektra were sparring, it felt more like a dance between two broken individuals. Even the sex scene didn't feel like "just sex" but rather an exploration of souls. Moves and counter-moves. I wonder if military history is STILL the first thing reporters look up in a mass shooting. It seems like the focus is on mental stability these days. Karen did mention that, how the D.A. wants to take the psychopath angle. I guess every outlet has a different approach. Makes me wonder what J Jonah Jameson has to say about Punisher. I love the awkwardness of Karen and Matt's date. It feels so real. Going out with someone you're already friends with adds that extra layer of "what if this doesn't work out" and you have no idea what to talk about on a date because you talk every day as it is. Dating someone you don't know at least has the benefit of no guilt of cutting ties if it's a bad time. But once they went to a place that was more them and less... let's say pompous... the date felt more natural and fun. There's a good tip for anyone wanting to date a friend, just be natural, don't try to be anything either of you aren't. Question for you, Kaiielle, would you allow someone you're being casual with to cut food on your stomach? I get the appeal but I have a few reservations about it myself LOL Elektra loves to live dangerously, especially if she's the danger. She might be a little psychotic but damn she looks good in red! I think the conflict within Matt is displayed perfectly in the division between Karen and Elektra. Elektra appeals to the dark, vengeful side in him that knows all he'll find is heartbreak but it'll be exciting whereas Karen appeals to the good in him that wants to be respectable and loved and have some peace of mind and heart. Elektra gets off on violence whereas Karen abhors it. That's also an internal struggle that started in season one. Matt doesn't know if he's damnation or salvation but he tries his hardest to redirect it in order to be a force for good. With different adaptations, I try not to compare one actor against another because everyone will have their own take on the character, however, it's difficult to not compare Elodie Yung and Jennifer Garner (from Affleck's Daredevil). Elodie is immediately mysterious and flirty with an obvious darkness to her. Jennifer excelled at the Miss Meadows type: sounds sweet and innocent but will absolutely drop you if necessary. And that right there is the main difference between the two portrayals: Elodie's Elektra has little to no conscience, which makes her much more dangerous and appealing to someone like Matt who struggles with his own darkness.

I'm genuinely confused if we're supposed to like Elektra, or think she's "cool" or something? She just seems unhinged and a liability to me. 😅 Some fun name-drops in this one; - The company Elektra hacked was Roxxon Corp, which has shown up all over the place in the MCU, from the first Iron Man all the way to Loki season 1. But the biggest Roxxon connection was probably in Agent Carter, where it was behind all that Isodyne Energy stuff. - There's an article in the offices of the Bulletin that mentions Cybertek. That's the company from Agents of SHIELD season 1, that was behind the Deathlok program. - And then of course, Jessica Jones is mentioned as being under investigation by the DA as part of her anti-vigilante flagship project for her bid for major.

Electra is a interesting new character and just like with Frank her morals conflict with Matt's but unlike Frank she seems to understand him in a way that nobody else does. Matt has two sides to him. His life as Matthew and his life as Daredevil. Electra cares about Daredevil not Matthew. That is the side of him that she wants. Not the law but the vigilante. She was way too excited about watching him kill the guy at the mansion and plays her own mind games to get what she wants. Karen is the opposite she cares about Matthew and he tries to keep her from his Daredevil side.

Ellison (the editor of the Bulletin/Ben's former boss) is one of my fave of the side characters. He gives off gruff dad vibes (even with Ben, somewhat) and you can just picture him getting up in the middle of the night and putting his coat on over his pjs to come pick you up from a party that you snuck out to go to and then called him when things got out of control. He might not be happy about it and will grumble the whole way, but is secretly happy that you did the right thing and called him (and he doesn't even tell Mom!) Foggy. Man, I wish they would flesh him out more. There's more to everyone than one-liners and, when they give him more on the page, he delivers...stop reducing him to the comic relief 90% of the time! Karen. Yeah, she is still my fave of our core three. She is (very unintentionally, I'm sure) soft coded as Autistic. Highly justice sensitive, is happiest if you give her piles of stuff to organize or deep dive into...she's gotta soak up allllll the information. She's kinda the textbook presentation of undiagnosed Autism in a high-masking female...seems somehow a little younger and more innocent than her peers...undervalued, but is the backbone of the office...has trouble regulating/concealing her emotions (Frankly, from interviews, it wouldn't shock me if that's just Deb showing through... I'm no doctor, but like recognises like and she would fit in waaaaaaay too well with my friend group, lol) Elektra. Ugh. I legit roll my eyes whenever she's on screen. I can't even bring myself to dislike her...she just...isn't worth the emotional investment to me. I just find her, more than most, to be a 2D character existing in a 3D world. She just seems like a comics character and most of the rest allow me to forget that they were created as a drawing first...because they feel more real. Like a-ha's Take On Me video...only less catchy. Matt. Bruh. What are you doing? Please, Sir, can I have a morsel of honesty? I will forever be frustrated when characters can't like open their mouths and say "hey, full disclosure, guys, our new client is someone I used to know and I'm not sure I want to get entangled in a business relationship with them." Why is that so hard? Oh, right, because Matt is damn near allergic to being honest most of the time. I forgot. This is my least fave episode of the season. Yes, I appreciate the flashbacks and a little more history from Matt, but the fact that it's all wrapped up with Elektra diminishes it for me. I would sacrifice the Matt backstory if it erased her from the plot entirely.

I have to say I love the casting of Elodie Yung as Elektra; I think she's incredible in the role, and also, as someone who grew up with the Daredevil director's cut and who read Frank Miller's Daredevil, I've always seen Elektra as Matt's definitive love interest. It's who I've always rooted for him to end up with.
