Questions for another Podcast Guest?

The podcast episode with David Howe will be released soon, but in the meantime, Kallie is recording another episode tomorrow!

The guest will be Ashley Hall. Ashley is a paleontologist, science communicator, author, and Marketing Coordinator for the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes in Cleveland, Ohio.

You can ask her about: Dinosaurs, science communication, paleontology, careers in museum education, educating the public about dinosaurs, working with fossils in museum collections, Taylor Swift, cats, spiders, working in zoos, and...pretty much anything about natural history.

What questions do you have for Ashley? Drop them in the comments below and we'll reference them in the next episode.

If new fossil evidence of "modern" organisms was ever found, would there be a chance of the Ediacaran Period being shifted to the Paleozoic? Or are there already geological reasons why this wouldn't happen?

Stephen O'Leary

How would our lives be different if we had sauropods around?

Janelle Shane

If Taylor Swift wrote a song about dinosaurs, what dinosaur(s) would you want in it and what would the song be about? (PS What’s your favorite T. Swifty song? PPS. Now I really want Taylor Swift to write a song about dinosaurs πŸ˜‚)

Many museums appear to have fossil collections that have been barely catalogued and not fully researched. We sometimes hear of a discovery by say a research student based on fossil material that's been in a museum's vaults for years, decades. Is there any attempt to use modern technology to get as much information on these collections into some digital format that might allow more rapid analysis? And of course one thinks of the modern miracle of "AI" that might interpret this data.

Gary Walker

Please ask Ms. Hall about the switch from Triassic to Jurassic and Jurassic to Cretaceous. Like were there extinction events that caused the change? How did dinosaurs and other life change from one era to another? But at a real high level. I know the details could last several human life times.

Craig T. White

How does she discern when to reach out to an expert and how does she locate the right person? For example, when does she feel she needs to talk to a geologist, or ecologist? What are some examples of when her own knowledge and research as an educator and marketer suffice for understanding a sample?

Lauren

Why were dinosaurs so dang big? It seems like so many creatures in the past were monster-sized compared to the rather tame proportions of most animals these days. What changed?

Katie Winchester

The Market Coordinating interests me: "2020 has been a particularly bad year for museums and zoos- as mostly nonprofits they've received very little help from the government and many are struggling to make ends meet as the pandemic closures drag into 2021. How can these valuable sources of science/nature knowledge for the public spring back from this?"

Quinlan Vuong

What requirements are there to be specimen preparer? You know the people that remove the matrix from around the bone.
