(Some) Patreon prices are rising +30%. Oh and "per-creation" is being discontinued.

TLDR apple wants to charge 30% on everything (as they do), including patreon. And patreon is so spineless that they bend over instantaneously and in order to comply with apple they're discontinuing "per-creation" subscriptions (like this very patreon page currently is) because... apple thinks it's lame i guess.

So, first up, if you're pledging on iOS, cancel and pledge elsewhere. Open safari or whatever and just pledge there. I don't even understand why patreon cares so much for their dang app if the experience on it is and always has been worse than the website. but that's another topic.

Patreon gives us the """choice"" to select between rising the price +30% on iOS or absorbing the price hike ourselves. I can't tell which platform my patrons are pledging from, but i honestly can't absorb anything right now -_- less so with what i'm about to talk about. So there's that.

So per creation is over i guess.

at least they have the decency to give us a whole year and some change to do the switch (November 2025 is the deadline) . I'm not sure when I will do it, but it won't be soon. I'll let you know whenever that happens. What this will mean to you? well, first some history:

Per-creation was first
The year was 2013. I opened this patreon and the only option was per-udate. it was nice. Subscription came along, i gave it a shot for a few months. income tanked horribly. I went back to per-update, and stayed there until this very day.

The present and the future.
You don't see this, but currently, each paid post gives me a decreasing amount of money. Despite the number you see how much i make per page in the homepage, on average i get like 2k usd/month. the first paid post amasses like 1200. the next like 400. and the nex tones usually 150-200 usd each. This is because of the feature I liked the most about "per update": the flexibility it gave patrons. You could pledge 5 bucks, but only pay 1 paid post, or 4, or all of them. So your budget by the end of the month could be anything between 5 and 25 usd or somthn. it allowed for different people with different budgets to get the rewards. Most people only supported 1 paid post, and therefore the amount pledged decreased dramatically with every further paid post.

The problem now is that's going away, and it will be one monthly payment. that's it. the new tiers will have to be priced differently. I'm still unsure how much they will have to be. I've tested on substar some pricing ($5 per creation = $10 monthly. $10 per creation = $20 monthly) but it's hard to tell if that will yield me a similar income when scaled up to patreon's numbers. Patreon says they """will give us one on one support to determine the ideal tier price to keep the income""" but who knows if that will be the case, or if people will want to continue pledging once their tier price increases. In the best scenario, income will be relatively the same and everything will continue as usual. In the worst case scenario, i'll have to produce less comics here, and get income elsewhere, depending on how much money I lose every month.

Time will tell i suppose. For now, know that this change is in the horizon, and I'll be letting you know of any changes i have to make way in advance. Thanks for supporting my work all this long though!! it really makes the difference between me making cool catwomen comics and... not.
