All of their albums are super distinct and the vocalist is a majorly talented writer who went on to write professionally as a music journalist. I would recommend either Sad Sweet Heart of the Rodeo or Little Round Mirrors for a good idea of their progression as a band from a punky-alt rock band with ironic lyrics to a Beatles-esque musical group with sweeping melodies and crazy cool piano arrangements
