And So Ends Vol. 3!
Added 2024-03-01 17:28:37 +0000 UTCIt was a long, wild ride, but we got there. From blown up and in the ocean at the southern tip of Jeongo, to going to orbit out of an exploding volcano in the extreme north of Jeon, in only ~300,000 words. That is a low estimate, but if you figure 150 chapters of roughly 2k words each, the math maths.
Thank you all for reading this far. Writing Slumrat has been incredibly satisfying, and was what convinced me to make writing my job. For the first time in my life, when I was going through customs in Panima, I identified myself as an author. Not some other job, author. It felt like a moment I would remember. A little jolt.
No hiatus before the next volume- rolling right into Vol. 4 on Monday. My stockpile has diminished somewhat between the vacation and the flu, but it's not at critical levels. We press on! For Victory!
Vol. 2 hits Amazon in all formats next week, March 5, and it would help IMMENSELY if you could rate and review. For those of you with Audible, the audiobook is 19hrs long. Can't say that's not value for your credits! Plus Todd does a remarkable job with it.
Related- for those of you at the awakened tier, I am sorry, I am really not consistant when I unlock those chapters. Going forward, I will try to unlock them a little before or a little after 12 pm Eastern time. That's UTC-5. Please don't heasitate to reach out if I goofed. Unfortunately, it's not something I can schedule in advance.
Teased thing will be announced... either next week or the week after. But it's a... heck of a thing. Potentially. It's really going to be up to each of you, individually. Ah well.

Good stuff Warby! I really hope that you write Truth’s journey all the way to the Throne of the False God.

2024-03-01 20:18:47 +0000 UTCI mean I get not liking the arc but going to a different platform and leaving a bad review for a arc that platform does not even have access to currently is kinda overkill. But then again the kind of people I imagine not liking the prince arc are exactly the type I can see doing stuff like that.

2024-03-01 19:49:34 +0000 UTCKris, I bitterly regret that I can't like your comment twice. Believe it or not, my dad has a picture of me next to Machiavelli's tomb in Florence.

2024-03-01 18:55:52 +0000 UTCHow far that journey goes is still TBD. He is rocketing up the power hirarchy, and I do have a plan for post-initiation progression. It's going to really depend on how interested people are in seeing the story continued. I'm expecting Vol. 4 to clock it at roughly the same length as Vol. 3, but I don't really plot that tightly in advance.

2024-03-01 18:54:49 +0000 UTCHey that makes you just like Macheveli! Both of you had to deal with people completely misunderstanding "The Prince"!

2024-03-01 18:50:43 +0000 UTCThis story includes (by luck or skill) a lot of MC character shifts that in 98% of stories would be overused cliches. At the beginning of the story I kept thinking of how stupid the MC was they just kept going along with things mindlessly and attributed it to the author (you Warby) being unable to write an MC with common sense which is common with many stories on RR. But after the well incident the whole thing fit wonderfully and I was very happy to see the rare occurrence where the story fully supported the MC's behavior, I sadly thought many may have put down the story too soon to see the development. Then there was the extra cringy relationships the MC was trying to cultivate, I HATE almost all attempts from RR type stories to include relationships as they are just so so so bad so often. But your story I don't mind at all because it actually makes sense for the character beyond the author just stating such, you didn't just state a character trait and will it into the story, you developed his character and made the cringe natural and justified. Then there is the Prince arc which people are going to hate or love, I hate the "Arrogant Young Masters" unless they are done comedically and often times they are not, they are written as somehow being manly tough versions of characters for "wish fulfillment" stories to make cringy keyboard warriors feel justified about the fantasy versions of themselves in their own minds, like a dude watching highlander and buying a katana believing they are a magical samurai. I have zero judgement for how people cope with their lives day to day but I can't read stories based around romanticizing it. Once again the concept of the Prince is a cliche but it isn't forced in your story, the MC's developed personality supports trying it out and I value that very much. I like none of these things separately or in almost any story I read but in your story they fit correctly and find it easy to accept them because of your writing. Some will hate them regardless because "wish fulfillment" is very ingrained in much of the audience for RR style stories and once the character acts outside "optimal" they can no longer think of themselves as the MC as much and become frustrated.

2024-03-01 18:07:39 +0000 UTCI actually really liked it. Its interesting having a hero who actually does do some pretty objectively evil things and learns from them. After all he was absolutely correct when he said that is just how Jeon society as a whole operates. Hierarchy is everything. He gets to have been both the oppressed and the oppressor and realize that it all sucks. That even if he has some of those toxic need for control he can mitigate it. Pretty cool. After all theres always two people connected to a chain and the master cant let go of the chain for fear of the slave slipping the leash.

2024-03-01 17:52:24 +0000 UTCMAN did people get salty about the Prince arc. Someone actually went on amazon and left a one-star review on amazon saying that I had turned the series into a "The Strong Should Prey On The Weak" story.
